Thought about this today after reading the threads about “Black Alert” abs the spinning disk, and I think this is one of the show’s biggest issues.
If Discover was a person, it would be a very insecure, try-hard teenager.
ST:TNG: “Hey guys, did you know the saucer section on my Enterprise can seperate from the ship? Cool, huh?”
STDSC: “Seperate? Yeah that’s cool GRANDPA! Guess that’s almost as cool as a saucer section THAT SPINS!! Like mine! See, it’s spinning!”
ST:TOS: “That’s nice but a ship should be functional first, for example if there’s a red alert and...”
STDSC: “Red Alert is cool and all. If you don’t happen to have a... BLACK ALERT! Woah! BLACK ALERT EVERYBODY! Mysterious and dangerous stuff ahead y’all!”
ST:ENT: “That’s nice, but the most important thing is exploration! My show featured the first Warp 5 capable warp drive an-“
STDSC: “Yeah warp drives are nice. If you got all week... But I got a SPORE DRIVE! Anywhere you want to go; BAM! You’re INSTANTLY THERE!”
ORVILLE: “Hey fellas, how’s it hanging? Little bit to the left? Hehe... No but seriously, just came to say that this weeks episode might not be one to watch with the kids. Somebody gets shot, there’s blood and a woman getting beat. Stakes are high man, and it’s sorta graphic!”
STDSC: “Oh dear, where are my smelling salts, people getting shot? HAH! On my show there are monsters tearing people apart, people turned inside out and guess what... If people die, you know what happens? THEY GET EATEN! BAM! CANNIBALISM! Yeah that’s how I roll! No filter man. If squares can’t handle it, they’re missing out!”
