IE7/8 - Protected Mode?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
Noticed this on the new Internet Explorer and was just curious to know if anyone else actually uses it and if it's really all that necessary to have cause I just it turned it off as it was preventing attchments in Yahoo mail from opening?

Firefox and Chrome also have protected modes (called Incognito in Chrome). I've never used it myself, although it's presumably used to ensure no shady cookies are planted on your system. I don't really see it as necessary, although I haven't really found a use for it yet.

That's not what "protected mode" is. Protected Mode is a security feature of Internet Explorer that runs in Vista and 7. It places IE in lower privileges and isolates tabs which makes it harder for malware to infect the system.

Turning it off is not recommended at all! Seriously, turn it back on or better yet, switch to another safer browser.
