IDW to announce new DS9 comics?

>>Cool news about both Sulu and DS9 stuff, I look forward to hearing more about what they do.

IDW should totally sign up Marco.<<

I think that would be terrific, especially considering the way he led the DS9 Relaunch novels. I'd buy that series in a heartbeat.:bolian:

Would be nice to see some more DS9-R comics again since we only got that one miniseries of the crossover with TNG in Divided We Fall.

While I'd love to see comics come in to help fill out the relaunch I can completely understand why IDW might not want to. It's taken them this long just to decide on doing DS9 at all. While we might all know and love the relaunch, we are that minority (Trek book readers) within a minority (DS9 fans) who are even aware of it. So is it worth the risk for IDW to jump in there, and possibly alienate DS9 fans in general (who might expect certain characters who wont be there and not have a clue about the new ones) to satisfy us? If we ever get DS9 relaunch comics I'd be expecting them after IDW had a couple of well performing TV-era DS9 miniseries done.

I'm glad that IDW might be getting to do DS9 comics now. Though doing the DS9-R in comic form sounds cool I think it might be best to just let the comic writers come up with their own take on the post-DW situation (if they even deal with that). It's possible that the DS9 books might be based during the run of the series, or address small or side issues not fully explored in the show. Seeing different alternate versions of the future might be pretty neat. I liked the DS9-R, but I'm not a fanatic about it. Though I enjoyed Elias Vaughn, Shar, and Prynn and wouldn't mind seeing more of their adventures beyond books, a DS9-R series might be too esoteric for non-initiated readers. A miniseries might be the best way perhaps to do a relaunch based comic that is a continuation of the storyline so far. Or something like what Dark Horse is attempting to do with their Star Wars Invasion comic, set during the Yuuzhan Vong War in their New Jedi Order book series. They've introduced a new POV character for first time readers.

The ideas for DS9 alien spotlights were great. I wouldn't mind seeing Founders, Jem'Hadar, Vorta, Hunters, Halanans, Tzenkethi, Trill, Breen, Cardassians

Although "n-Vector" was also set post-TV series and introduced Commander Tiris Jast the Bolian, who met her fate in "Avatar".

Thanks for reminding me. I forgot about that one. I was actually just relooking over that one a few weeks ago. Grr...
If IDW doesn't take the path of the DS9-R, I can understand why they don't. Would be nice but I think they should do some stories that we haven't seen that might of happened offscreen. I honestly would like to see some Dominion War stories through. Just stuff that might of been mentioned on screen that was actually not seen. Plus we do have a 3 month gap between Seasons 6 and 7 that wasn't seen either.
I know at least a few stories were in the DS9 Anniversary and Tales of the Dominion War books.

Maybe you've read it, but there are Tosk, Hunter and Wadi characters in "Rising Son".

I take it nothing was announced at Comic-Con about DS9 comics?

Considering the audiences, direct adaptation of the novels might be an option. To persons not familiar with the novels, the series would be new. To novel readers, the stories would be depicted visually for the first time. Dark Horse published a version of Star Wars's Thrawn trilogy this way, didn't they?

Edit: And wasn't an adaptation of The Ashes of Eden produced at one point?

I have, the inclusion of those characters was one of my favorite things about the book.

I've received all of IDW's press releases out of SDCC, and they didn't announce anything new Trek-wise.

Bummer. Still, a fan can dream...

IDW has held off on making most of its Trek series announcements to keep them from getting buried under the avalanche of news that normally results from the SDCC. It has actually now hired an artist for the new DS9 series, so expect a formal annoucement on the project soon--maybe even this week, and if not then in the immediate future.

In the meantime, you can check out an update on my blog for more info.

I've been practically stalking your blog since you first mentioned the DS9 possibility, I'm hungry for news! I hope you're right in your guess at a Titan issue of this Captain's Log series, I'm probably more interested in seeing Titan (and it's many varied aliens) in comics than DS9.

And funny you should mention the possibility of an on-going series. John Byrne was looking for feedback on that possibility on his forums not long ago. I'd favour Early Voyages starting up again myself.

Can't really say I'm excited by a Deep Space Nine comic. Would have much rather seen Enterprise get a crack.

All for a regular monthly title though!

I've always ITCHED for further adventures of Captain Sulu and the Excelsior (Forged In Fire was one of my all time favs), so I'm REALLY lookin' forward to that.

Also love the idea of the DS9 comics. Here's hopin' they fill in some gaps....
