Yeah, the backgrounds are often exquisite, and the faces they do draw are usually very good, too. (Not super-happy with the lobster-red Klingons, though. Not sure what that's all about.)
So, clearly they have the requisite talent, but they're taking some very unfortunate shortcuts.
This, along with the long wait for very short stories, makes following the series a bit too frustrating to me. But over-all, I think it's still a good series, and may look into getting some omnibus editions in the future.
I actually haven't read those (not a big fan of parallel universe plots), but perhaps I will for this very reason. I suppose having what was essentially a whole new crew made using screen-capture as anything but a base in character design very difficult.
Some of the early DC comics rendered the Klingons with bright yellow skin.
Read Behemoth Part1 and really enjoyed it. It gives several of the support characters some development, has a landing party that seems picked for necessary skills for once, and builds nicely. Sad to know it's only a 2-parter though as the resolution will necessarily be brief.
The preview for "Behemoth, Part 2" is now up. Dunno what's with the weird webpage formatting. According to the article, it's supposed to come out this Wednesday, February 25.

Guess IDW finally managed to get these issues unloaded even with the dock workers' strike.
Yep. Plus, the release of "Behemoth, Part 2" only 2 weeks after "Behemoth, Part 1" makes IDW finally back on monthly schedule. Hopefully, anyway. IDW doesn't seem to pick a specific week in the month as a default release date.

"Behemoth" felt like a return to the earlier issues of the ongoing and that's disappointing.
In the first part, we get some nice character moments with Chekov and Kirk/Marcus, then a nice set-up to the story with the alien vessel and its Moby-Dick prey.
In the second part, we get an info dump of exposition, lots of talking heads discussing the appropriate action to take (without taking any action whatsoever), and the guest-star alien removing all potential difficult decisions from the lead protagonists by actual doing something while our intrepid crew of explorers wrings their hands in the audience.
In other words, the typical rushed conclusion to these two-part stories that we've come to expect from the ongoing comic.
A welcome change is the lack of a tidy ending to this story. The ending should lead into the next arc, "Eurydice," and may give this book a better sense of continuity from story to story. Hopefully this means the character work from the first part continues to progress into the next arc because that was a brief highlight from this below average story.

"Behemoth, Part 2" kind of reminds me of several giant cosmozoan stories of Star Trek, but especially Christopher's Orion's Hounds.
Y'know, what with TNG's current influence on the Star Trek franchise (such as the erroneous LCARS displays in the Abramsverse ongoing comic series), I want the series to feature a chief of security for Enterprise. It would be nice to see, for instance, the Abramsverse's Barry Giotto.

I thought the pacing was good in part 2 so at least the ending, while rushed, felt a bit more organic than some of the earlier issues. Overall, I really like this story.
It was hard to tell with the space suits but it looks like Zahra's ethnicity might have been tweaked back to north African in the artwork, which is good. Marcus, plus Rand, plus blonde Caucasian Zahra was too much of a whitewash. I still wish Rand would get the odd cameo on the bridge if nothing else but I really like the fact that Zahra has successfully filled the shoes of Cupcake for now. That said, I hope they keep featuring a rotation of security characters and support crew. It's better when a recurring character bites the dust so they should establish some spares.

No, it's because IDW has recently been plagued by delays and is getting back onto their designated monthly schedule. Hopefully that means a new issue of Star Trek ongoing in week 1 or week 2 of a month, but history suggests that that may be too much to hope.
Thanks for that, and that's good news. I like my Trek comics you understand, but double the amount could have impacted greatly on the finished product.
