I woke up in a different universe...

Anyway... I think I woke up in a different universe today. It started when I got to work this morning. We were all standing around outside before heading in to the office when one of the guys mentioned that he saw Wolverine last night. Well, before he got a chance to go any further someone else cut him off with "Forget that, Star Trek comes out tomorrow!" To which, someone else replied "Oh, yeah... have you seen the previews for that?"

Well, before I had a chance to even respond (being the only Trek-geek I know), everyone started talking about their plans to see the film. Two of them mentioned that their wives wanted to see it too, and they started making plans to go as a foursome. I'm usually one of the more vocal members of the group but I barely had a chance to chime in with "Uh, yeah... looks awesome." The whole thing was kind of strange... and that wasn't the end of it...

At lunch, I dropped by BK to pick up a couple of the kids meal toys and they were nearly out of them! I had to get Uhura and the Kelvin because they didn't have Kirk and Spock. Plus, while I was there some guy was bitching at the drivethru window because they were out of Spock glasses!

This new world is going to take some getting used to. Hell, I used to have to hide my Trek novels under my bed so my friends wouldn't see them!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yup, it was all the buzz at the watercooler.

I overheard 'It's from the guy that made lost!'. 'It has that guy from heroes' 'It looks like a blast..and it has that guy from Shaun of the Dead!'.

Yep, I'm also going to see the movie with "normals" who usually are indifferent to Star Trek and to summer blockbusters in general. I should probably avoid this forum now tho, because the thing about "normals" is, they feel no need to fight opening weekend crowds and are actually willing to wait a couple weeks. :rommie:

Huh, I never thought of it like that: elements of a bunch of other brands coming in to resurrect and comprise one of the big franchises of our time. ILM is most famous for Star Wars, writers from Mission Impossible and Transformers are there, etc. etc. It brings a warm, fuzzy feeling, honestly.

I saw it last night with a friend who saw it at the midnight premiere the night before!

Enjoy yourselves!

Welcome to the promised land, my friends! A land where everyone is becoming a Trek fan of some description!

A land where we no longer have to live in our mother's basements! (Unless you still want to, of course...)

It's good to see that it's this popular though. Hopefully the film means that Trek can carry on going after the hiccup that was the end of Enterprise and Nemesis.

My wife wants to see it Friday night with friends. Maybe at a 7:30 show. I said, "Fine. I should just be getting out of the theatre by then. Save me a place in line."
I don't think I've felt this jacked about a ST movie since I got my Spock glass from McDonalds (?) for Star Trek Three!!

My wife (who was bored to tears when I made her watch The Menagerie) made me promise to wait and see it with her on Tuesday. This is the first time she has ever shown an interest in Trek. Of course, I'm sneaking off with my brother to see it tomorrow morning! What she doesn't know won't hurt her (or me).

Incidentally, my Spock Lives! glass (from Taco Bell) finally broke a month or two ago. This film came at just the right time!

^^^ ebay for your Spock lives glass my friend. But yeah this friggin movie is all the buzz, my sister just called me and I was bitchin' how I'm gonna have to go to the midnight show tonight (bought the wrong time!!!) and she said Oh Cakes you are just going to love it...it's all over the news and everyone at work is talking about it. Now I've never heard the words Star Trek come out of my sisters mouth before...so this movie i predict is going to pass box office expectations.

I like this universe--it's exciting!

Wouldn't it be great if people came to see the movie generally because of buzz and reviews, and the involvement of Lost and Heroes creators and actors, but then came to the sequel to the prequel because it is...

Star Trek?

:D

yep more trek fans (so called) i,ve experienced that 2day i went BK and asked for good old spock and all i got was WHO ? the syler guy and then he said trek was amazing and the syler guy was his favourite character. i hope these so called trek fans are not turnin into man utd supporters because there everywhere and most of them hav never stepped into old trafford footy ground. be on your toes watch out 4 them so called trek fans lol lol

Crap! The neighbors are coming over! Quick, throw all the Star Trek stuff under the bed and put the hentai and KKK magazines out on the coffee table!

The theatre I'm going to go see it in an hour and a half at still had available tickets for the 7pm showing at 6:40, which seemed a bit odd. I was hoping it wasn't a trend, and it doesn't seem so. :)

I got a full set of the glasses on the 4th with they went on sale.

"Hi, um, I'd like one of the Star Trek glasses please!" Said I while trying not to sound like a nerd.

"Oh. Sure. Do you want all four?" Burger Lady asks.

"YES!" Said I.

Perhaps I should've got two? :vulcan:

Aw, crap!
Here come the "Mundanes!"

Oh, indeed. And you can keep Space:1999 to yourself... you and the three other fans of that show ;)
