I was attacked by a duck today. No, seriously.

ducks.. what can I say they are 'fowl' creatures had a few run ins with ducks and a few geese swans dont seem to dislike me yet anyway.

still at least they wont bill me for it.

In that video that I posted it said that the casowary was one of only two birds known to have killed people by attacking them. Does anyone know what the other species of bird is?

If anyone is interested here a video of a cassowary attack. There is another video I have seen when the attack was far more vicious and the victim was actually injured but that video doesn't seem to be on You Tube

I don't know for certain, but my guess would be probably an ostrich or an emu.

It seems that you are right. it looks like male ostriches have killed a couple of people.

There were also some prehistoric birds that were quite large and nasty, and probably attacked and killed many humans and other hominids many thousands of years ago.

I was attacked by a badger once. It bit onto my trouser leg and would not let go. I was flinging it around like crazy and it just hung on for dear life.

I think that scientists believe that the Haast Eagle of New Zealand might have been able to kill people. It is the only bird in the world that was at the top of the food chain. It certainly could kill moas. It became extinct in about 1400 AD.

This has been happening more and more often since birds found out they are descended from T Rex.

When I was a kid, a goose tried to eat me. I was up in New Hampshire and I was feeding a bunch of them seeds or something; one of them decided that Human meat would be a little bit more nourishing. He tried to bite my fingers off and made me cry. :(

I was attacked by a pelican once. It was one mean looking mutherfucker with his wings raised and his mouth open.

I screamed like a girl and ran for my life.

Poor pelican :( It might have mistaken you for food.

Well, he didn't eat that day. :p

You just gotta grab 'em and show 'em who's boss.

I know, it's hard at first, but you'll get better with practice!

(PS - I'm just messing with you. Seriously, you're going to die if you follow my advice.)

Man, if that had happened to me as a kid it would've really scarred me. As an adult, that pelican scared the shit out of me.

Birds are bastards and not just the "angry because I'm flightless" kind. Magpies, Plovers and even the laughing Kookaburra. At the college cafeteria at uni if you ate outside you had to slouch over your plate or the damn Kookaburras could come down land on our plate and take everything they could...bastards.

We had an emu at school...sort of. I remember it getting loose and the advice from the teachers was, "get out of its way or you will die." Okay maybe not that dramatic but it was a definite avoid and don't try to ride it.

Don't trust parrots or cockatoos, they'll bite you just so they can get a taste of human blood.

I too was attack by a Goose. I got a little too close to her goslings I think. She lowered her head and rammed me with it like a medieval knight performing a joust.

I was attacked by a black goose on the golf course. I killed it in self-defense. Turns out it was the prized pet of the Japanese guy who owned the country club! Boy, was my face red!

Thanks all for sharing your stories of similar experiences. I feel better knowing I'm not alone...

CD, pelicans are so big and scary! I would have cried and ran away screaming too.

Also, I think I may be stupid and it was actually a goose that came after me. I didn't consider distinguishing between the two at the time of the assault. Survival instinct, you know. :)

I've never been attacked by a bird - not personally, anyway. However during a family holiday to the Highlands of Scotland for the New Year several years ago, our chalet was attacked by a group of swans trying to peck their way through the patio door. It was quite unnerving at the time.

I have, however, been shat on by a hawk.

This thread gives me an idea for a movie.

Well, I still remember it almost 45 years later. :rommie:

Try having a snack down by the seashore with Seagulls around. Bunch of flying Rats....

Am I the only one thinking, "A gøøse ønce bit my sister..."?

Mmm, emus. Them's good eatin'.

(I'm actually being kind of serious there. I've had emu meat, and found it quite tasty.)
