I want to see aliens in the next Star Trek movie

Agenda

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
REAL aliens - not guys in suits. We always get guys in suits. What's up with the guys in suits?

Surely, they can spend a little more money on some good muppets or CGI this time.

Are you speaking about crew members, or some other sapient beings that the crew meets up with? Or perhaps some other types of creatures like banthas, sehlats, or targs? Any of these ideas would be great. I think Farscape did some really cool work creating some very alien-looking aliens with muppets and some of the CGI aliens from the more recent Star Wars films looked pretty good.

I tried to make the point (not 100% effectively, apparently) in an earlier thread that I believe that a planet with conditions very similar to those of the Earth could still give us some VERY "different/strange" looking aliens that would be able to be seen working alongside humans, vulcans, etc., in the conditions typical onboard a Federation Starship. To demonstrate this point, we see quite a wide diversity of life forms in any one of Earth's terrestrial environments; therefore, we wouldn't need a planet to have conditions drastically different from Earth's in order to provide us with some very non-human looking aliens.

Beyond that, though, perhaps we can somehow see some more organisms in the spirit of the Tholians and the Aquatics from Enterprise- ones that do look radically different because they did evolve in an environment very different from the one humans developed in.

I think it would be interesting if Star Trek:2012 encountered some aliens that weren't humanoid, about 6 feet tall, and had a language that the universal translator could easily translate. That seems to happen in books, but not movies.

We need more aliens like Keenser.

The problem with star trek always is the studio holding back on the cash. Over the 40 year star trek history, they've been plenty of stories and screenplays that were killer, but the studio balked at the idea of bringing them to life. Hopefully that has changed with trek 2009. I would definately love to see more alien looking creatures that did not speak english or the universal translator couldn't decipher. ( hello...that's what subtitles are for...the audience will get it) The creature in trek 2009 on the frozen planet was cool...but it was out of place in that enviroment. With the avatar technology today, i can't see why we can't get cool looking aliens...give us photo realistic; ten feet tall, brawny, pit-bull like klingons. I would like to see a race of aliens that make the crew or anyone for that matter gag and throw up. ( this was done in a star trek novel . I think it was either their look or smell that made kirk, checkov and uhura go into convulsions) I for one would create a race of aliens that evolved form...ready for this...? skunks. They would crawl more than walk upright. They would use their scent as well as a fluid they expell as weapons. I know that sounds crazy and even funny, but the universe is a big wonderland; who's to say what's out there. A gorn done properly would also be cool. The one on Enterprise was ok...but the animation was lacking somewhat. Anyways, just dropping in to give my penny's worth.

You know in the film and the tv series I just never thought Spock as an alien. I thought of him as different. I guess regarded him as a person rather then about if he was alien or not.

I think JJ and company stated in the audio commentary that they too wanted to include more aliens in the film...the story, time restraints, and budget concerns probably were the reasons why we didn't see more. As for "real aliens" not guy's in suits...'fraid that probably won't happen as long as the budget is the the way it is and CGI is the only other alternative. Guy's in suits is going to be the norm...I don't really see what the problem is with that in the first place. It would be cool to see "alien" looking aliens and not just alien monsters, like the spider, but actual sentient life forms. We'll see.

I'd love to see some Caitians, Tellarites, Andorians (especially), and Saurians in speaking roles. I'm happy for Keenser to be pottering around in the background but I hope he isn't given airtime that detracts from time that could be allocated to some decent, less cheesey aliens.

I don't buy into the idea that the movie budget constrains alien design, after all Farscape did a convincing job on their aliens in permanent rolls with a smaller budget.

I would definately love to see more alien looking creatures that did not speak english
