I'm having difficulty finding any kind of sport that someone of limited physical ability could get into. I figured it'd be great for exercise (better than archery at least). Right now I'm looking at field hockey and fencing, but I have a feeling the clubs for those sports here at my school aren't accepting new members at the moment... plus I dunno exactly how skilled I have to be to even be allowed to participate at all. I'm worried I'll show up, they'll take one look at me, and be like "Pfft, no way. Shape up and THEN we'll talk." I've also been looking at maybe joining some kind of martial arts (my cousins do tae kwon do) but when I submitted my info to the rec center... NO ONE contacted me.
Should I just show up to a practice for whatever sport and tell the group I'm interested, then see where that goes?
Does anyone have any other sports recommendations? Preferably something that would also be easy to find an amateur group for back home? I used to do youth softball and soccer but I'm way too old for that now (I'll be 21 in June) and can't find any websites for adult sports groups that don't require some kind of tryout. With the shape I'm in, I'd never make a team unless it was one of those "everyone gets to participate" things.
(BTW, also trying to find something with a low injury risk. So far, fencing seems to be safest.)
