I want the next companion after Clara to be...

Another vote for the Doctor's Daughter.

Let's see how aloof 12 is with a relative in the control room...

^ As much as I loved Jenny in "The Doctor's Daughter," I think I would have preferred her to return during Matt Smith's reign -- though it would be interesting to see the dynamic between her and 12, now that he actually looks like he could be her father.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Rani Chandra travelling with the Doctor for a while. The actress is 24 now and old enough that she wouldn't be thought of as one of those "SJA kids" anymore, and likely able to stick around for a full-time gig.

I think it's best when the Doctor and/or companion need something from the other. Like Rose needed the escape, 9 needed to reconnect, Donna needed purpose, Amy needed the impossible man and 11 needed Clara the impossible girl. Actually, the mystery of the impossible girl may have been nicely suited for 12.

I think this is where Martha comes up a bit short being a bit of a "rebound" for the Doctor. And at this point, Clara feels like a friendship that's run its course (which does seem to being played out in the plot). I'd like to see a companion that invokes some sense of need from either party. Unless some plot development occurs 12 seems too demanding for a light friendship.

No Rani without Clyde!

I would kill to see both of them as companions.

Seriously who'd I have to kill...I can make it look like an accident and everything...

They are waiting for the call!

It's like Assembling the Avengers. I wonder why Moffat hasn't done much with the spin-off characters.

I don't have any inside information, just a STRONG feeling, so don't consider this a spoiler. But I have a feeling those of you wanting a male companion are about to get your wish - and it's a character that has already been heavily featured this season so far.

Nope. If you do a search online you'll find some shooting photos from the finale that show where he's going...

We don't know whether that'll get undone, though.

Through the power of love????

ack, I need to avoid the spoily-woily :)

I think the team you are describing is Tegan, Tegan and Tegan.
You've got a point, but how could three Tegans form anything that could be called "a team"?

I was thinking with the Doctor's current command of the TARDIS they'd have to work a new angle to have a reluctant passenger like Tegan. I'm least familiar with the fifth Doctor but wasn't it that he couldn't get her back to Heathrow I believe it was?

It was only 7 or 8 failed attempts, and they still met up again after in Amsterdam.

From he Crimson Horror...

(The Tardis materialises in a cobbled alley, in sepia with tickly music in the background all the way through.)
DOCTOR: Okay, so. Not London 1893. Yorkshire 1893. Near enough.
CLARA: You're making a habit of this, getting us lost.
DOCTOR: Sorry. It's much better than it used to be. Ooo, I once spent a hell of a long time trying to get a gobby Australian to Heathrow Airport.

(There's a place called Hotel Omega in Amsterdam. Weird.)

I think it's time to bring back a team. Barbara, Ian and Susan and Tegan, Nyssa and Adric created some interesting dynamics with the Doctor. Maybe get in a strong female character to do the action stuff, a nerdy guy and then a teenage girl who would have a similar role to the current companions or something to that effect. I think this set up really works to the advantage of an older Doctor like 12.
