I WANT MY STAR TREK BACK!!!!

Two years is hardly a long wait.

I think those who are demanding a return immediately are simply addicts looking for a fix. Any Trek would satisfy them, no matter how bad it was.

Yeah well have you tried injecting a DVD? Its bluddy painful!

Seriously a break will do trek the power of good and there are 28 seasons to watch through again while you wait, 29 if you count the cartoon, and 10 movies as well.

The stodio must be full of borg?

I think we should worry about taking care of that before we get more trek into production.

I didn't know it was his Star Trek to demand back. Last time I checked, it was owned by CBS Corp. (TV) and Viacom (movies).

YES I WANT STAR TREK BACK! :D :D :D :D

...you shoulda been around this place when ENT was cancelled. People were moaning that Trek was dead for good, or at best, wouldn't return for ten or fifteen years. Hey at least we got a movie now.

If it succeeds, and all indications I've seen of it suggests it has a really good shot, then we'll get some more movies and eventually a companion series on TV (which is where Star Trek really belongs, it's too complex and multifaceted to be handled adequately in movie format only), which may or may not involve the characters from the movies but very likely will be 23rd C based (they won't want to stray too far afield from the template that "worked," at least not initially).

I think those who are demanding a return immediately are simply addicts looking for a fix.

Because the one place you won't find Star Trek addicts is a place called TrekBBS. :p

I hope Star Trek returns picking up in the 24th century a few years after DS9 and VOY ended. It would also be okay to have it jump ahead a little. A prequel series doesn't seem to work so well, though a future based series could have a couple of episode story arcs in the past. What is important is to have the premise of exploration and humanity and try to keep it believable. The show could work as either a dark (DS9) or light (TOS/TNG) theme. I think they should try to avoid a singular mission like they had on Voyager. Whatever is chosen, it should focus on characters and technology, not just technology by itself, or prequel technology that is better than TOS.

I hope that after this little break TPTB will bring forward several more series of Star Trek that can bring us from 28 seasons towards 40 to 50. :)

I have to admit to surprise at the movie being greenlit so soon - but I'd be INCREDIBLY surprised if we saw a return to the 24th/25th century. Apart from anything else they've sold all the props, so you would see a completely different look and feel for Starfleet, not a bad thing in my book...

A prequel series doesn't seem to work so well, though a future based series could have a couple of episode story arcs in the past.

It works fine when it is well written as many episodes of Enterprise proved, the times it didn't work so well was when they remade Voyagers shitty shuttle crash episodes as if they were part of the new show.

Indeed.

The show could work as either a dark (DS9) or light (TOS/TNG) theme. I think they should try to avoid a singular mission like they had on Voyager.

Why? Again even if you are not a fan of Voyager the premise was not at fault. Also it could have been changed easily by sending them home, they considered doing it for the last couple of seasons.

Whatever is chosen, it should focus on characters and technology, not just technology by itself, or prequel technology that is better than TOS.

I dont think Trek has ever focussed just on its fictional technology, and there was no technology in Enterprise more advanced than TOS.

If they can make money out of it, they will do it.

Ever hear of New Coke? My guess is, if the movie succeeds there will be a New Trek version of TOS.

And the arguements on which one is better will continue on this board until Judgement Day...

Why does there need to be an argument at all?

Several series and movies have been made for our entertainment.

One of Star Trek's basic principles is about embracing diversity.

If it is impossible to find something in any of these efforts to enjoy go elsewhere.

The petty bickering about who's a "real" fan of the "real" show is childish at best and disturbing at worst: Death Threats to the producers, denouncing any new Trek as wrong without seeing it, Petitioning for its destruction, Hatred for people you've neither met, nor will ever know personally, going above and beyond to destroy people's credibilty for liking something or attempting to push the boundaries of what Trek is, schoolyard namecalling.

Is this what fandom has become??

Are you f*cking kidding me??

Define "My Star Trek", because whatever happens I can guarantee you won't ever get that back... An adequate substitute is the best you can hope for. It's somebody else's toybox now, whether we like it or not.

And yes, of course I want Star Trek back...! I've yet to hear a good reason why not.

Or more specifically, who do you want to produce it. There are those who only prefer the first 16 TOS as Pure Roddenberry Trek (tm). There are those who think that GR's Trek is the only Trek, despite the first two years of TNG sucking hard. Of course there are those who call for Berman's head on a pike, but give him no credit for DS9. There are those who HATED DS9 because it was too dark and wanted TNG back. There are those who HATED Bennett/Meyer Trek. The are those who HATED anything with Brannon Braga's name on it and credit all the episodes he co-wrote solely to Moore, without acknowledging the FACT that Moore ALSO killed Kirk in Generations. Hell there are those who blame Braga for things he didn't even write.

Abrams had high praise from everyone here for the shows Alias and Lost UNTIL he asked Paramount to let him do a Star Trek film and now he sucks, too??

Make up your minds people.

I hope Star Trek returns picking up in the 24th century a few years after DS9 and VOY ended.

They might do that someday, but here are the two realistic immediate scenarios:

1) Trek XI is a flop. Trek won't be back for a long time, if ever.

2) Trek XI is a success. They capitalize on that success by working outwards from the successful elements, which mean TOS characters and the 23rd C.

Hey, DS9 is my favorite series and I'd love to see a return to it but if I were in charge of Trek, I'd stick with what works, too. The 23rd C has plenty of wonderful material that will last for the foreseeable future.

It works fine when it is well written as many episodes of Enterprise proved, the times it didn't work so well was when they remade Voyagers shitty shuttle crash episodes as if they were part of the new show.

Yeah, even before a post-Dominion War series, I'd like to see a real Birth of the Federation series at long last, which ENT wasn't, not till Coto got control of it, but by then it was too late to save the show.

If only that were true.

Why are you here, then? :rommie: There's a whole internet out there full of BBSes where you won't find Trek addicts. Try CrochetingBBS or ScubadivingBBS or LibertariansForJesusBBS or even ILuvBigButtsBBS...

Okay, startreksucks.com isn't active but starwarssucks.com is a porn site. What does that say about the popular image of Trekkies!?! Is it good or bad, I can't tell anymore. :rommie:

And can someone please tell Daniel Walton of Oklahoma City to get that startreksucks.com site up and running? What, is he waiting for the movie or something???
