I think Tarantino Trek just died.

It's sad that the dream is dead. It would have been ones of the greatest things to happen to Trek and now it's just fantasies of what could and should have been. We have all now have a future to look forward to where we will have no choice but to be less happy than we could have been if he had only enriched our existence with his creative magic.

Fresh off Once Upon a Time... and in that mindset, wrapped up in a love letter to Star Treks past now, I think it would've surprised a lot of people for being mature and not necessarily a bulkhead to bulkhead, blood and gore fest. A double shame since he at least wanted to continue using the Kelvin timeline cast in his idea too.

Tarantino is to talented to just do mindless action and gore. He is not Michael Bay. His strength is actually characters and dialogue and well also finding ways to do homages to old stuff nobody has seen but still make it feel very fresh and new and even enhanced with it's Tarantinoism's.

I would have liked to see it happen. But was highly skeptical it ever would. Not due to Tarantino’s style but due to his track record of noncommittal to projects. He has made a big deal of directing a set number of films and retiring. How would this fit into that?

While never clear he intended to direct himself, he would have wanted to creative force guiding it. I doubt he thought of logistics of it. Being a producer takes up time he could put to other films. The reality is Paramount was unlikely going to give him 100% control. Does he want to be a team player?

It’s rare for any big name director to do franchise films once they are already established. They are used to being the kings of their own kingdom.

It’s fun to talk about wanting to play with other people’s toys but is it worth it? Better making their own toys with no rules or supervision. Same reason I can never see him or Christopher Nolan ever doing a James Bond film.

Whether he'd Iike to be in a typical Tarantino movie.. well, when he was making Wonder Woman, Chris criticized nowadays movies for being too sexist and pessimistic and violent. .and he was like, there is a movie called 'infinity war, are you serious?' (was keeping that competion with marvel alive )

Why I still think he should be heavily involved. for those who don't know, QT was one of the 3 directors of Sin City 2005. I think trek 4 can find another director, but let QT be a co-writer and producer and be part of the marketing of the next film.

QT is just on a roll with once upon a time, and trek 4 been one of the last movies he is involved in, will build up hype. the bottom line is Trek 4 is better having the QT name on it in some way than not.

From the rumors, his movie wouldn't be trek 4 thus a continuation of kelvin trek, anyway. He just wanted to use Pine. The (ridiculous for me) rumored fanfiction plot, along with his words, doesn't really fill me with excitement and interest and I don't think it would attract a diverse audience and be more successful than Beyond. Doesn't sound original or like he could add something valuable to the franchise.

Frankly, we are in 2020 and people behind trek need to do better if they want to stay relevant to a modern audience. You can't use nostalgia as an excuse to keep everything in the past and make movies only few old school fans will like. JJ did a lot to modernize the franchise in 2009 but nowadays even his movie wouldn't be enough.

The franchise runners are already doing a great job making/keeping Star Trek relevant; the problem is, people just want the Next Generation era when that no longer works (and the jury's still out on Star Trek: Picard, which is nostalgia of its own.)

I would say yes and no. On the one hand, there are definitely demonstrating confidence in the brand with how much output they are producing. On the other hand, it is very much holding on to familiar elements, like Spock, like Picard, like Data, etc. as if to reassure people that "Yes, it is still Star Trek."

So glad that this project doesn't seem to be happening. All respect to those who wanted it, but Tarrentino's style always seemed like the very wrong fit for Star Trek at the very best, and all the ideas that were leaked about the proposal were very bad premises. I seriously think we dodged a bullet here.

In any event, my understanding is that the project hadn't advanced to "serious consideration" by the time we heard about it and we kinda assumed that it was a given to happen.
