I think I officially hate Walmart

That, and I have a hard time believing that some of the people found within those walls actually exist outside of them. To protect my sanity I like to pretend these people live and die within the store, and like holodeck programs in Trek, vanish if they step foot outside.

What is so horrible about these people that they threaten your sanity and deserve such scorn?

Have you ever been inside of a Walmart?

If not, this illustrates my point quite nicely. People Of Walmart.com
Yeah. All people who shop at Wal Mart look like those people. Right.
I just stopped by a Wal Mart to pick up some bananas and a toilet brush. I guess that makes me some kind of un-person or something?

I am not sure I get how Wal-Mart has taken over the world. I have been inside one a few times. I don't see how it is different from something we had back in the Dark Ages called K-Mart.

I live in a paradise that has never seen a Walmart.

Terrific. Tasmania, right? Well that's now on a list of places to visit.

WalMart blows. Years ago I bought a copy of Diablo II for PC there, used. The box only had 2/3 of the disks. The play disc was missing.

I asked for an exchange or refund. They said they didn't do exchanges or refunds on software. I showed them that only disk 1 and 3 were in the box. They told me there's no way for them to know that I didn't remove the disk and return it that way.

I said it was irresponsible for them to sell me an incomplete, unusable product. They kept singing the, "it's not our problem" song. I asked why they didn't check that all the disks were there. They said it wasn't their problem.

So I said, "basically you're not interested in if the customer gets what they paid for, you just want to take the money." ... they kept saying "we don't do refunds/exchanges on software." It was insane. I felt like I was losing my mind.

We did speak to the manager who repeated the song in a different tune.

I left the store. My girlfriend (at the time)'s father, a retired military officer came in to talk sense to the staff (he usually always gets what he wants). But he too came out with the same bullshit response. Even he was bewildered by their utter stupidity enforcing a policy that basically allows them to screw the consumer no matter what.

I walked into the store, up to the electronics counter. I looked for Diablo II, opened the box, took out disk 2 and held it up to the security cameras so they could see that I had taken the disk from the box. I put it into my box and threw the contents of the box I'd opened to the floor.

I walked out of the door (clearly holding the box and receipt in my hands) just hoping that some security guard would come and give me shit... I was white hot jumping angry and would have welcomed such a confrontation. They way I saw it, WalMart put me in a position where I had to take what was rightfully mine. It certainly wasn't Blizzard's fault.

Had they arrested me for shoplifting I planned to go an a crusade against WalMart, my defense being that I'd paid for the product and since they didn't want to give it to me I had to take it.

No one followed me. The only thing that bothers me is that someone else might end up dicked by getting the Diablo II box that I'd ripped open and then it would start all over again... so I vowed to repeat this story as often as I can to everyone so that they know that buying software from WalMart is probably the riskiest thing you can do with your money due to their unethical policy.

I couldn't justify spending 30 bucks on a used game that I couldn't play. Who would?

If you buy software used there, open it up and CHECK FIRST.
Or even better... don't fucking shop there PERIOD. You'll be glad you didn't.

Every time I have ever returned anything from Walmart they go "OK" and throw it in an overfilled cart.

They won't take back any opened software or movies. Every WM I've ever been to had that policy. Everything else, yeah, they'll pretty much take it back.

My wife and I got our fill of WM after buying several electronic items it turned out had been previously bought, found defective, and returned. You could tell because the interior packaging was messed up and some of the documentation was missing. Funny how the items then didn't work. I find it hard to believe someone would return, say, a DVD player, and not mention that it didn't work.

The last straw was a computer keyboard where half the keys didn't work. Found traces of wrapping paper inside the box. Evidently, a Christmas gift found wanting, and who could blame them? As I said, half the fucking keys didn't work. We got a manager to come up and asked them straight out why they think they can restock defective merchandise. They denied it up and down, that it's not their policy, they don't do things like that, blah blah. My wife chucked the keyboard over the counter and cussed out the manager. The manager didn't know what to do. They just gave us our money back and we left.

I have little doubt they still put that keyboard back on the shelves, hoping someone else would buy it and never bother to return it. Fuck Wal-Mart.

I am not sure I get how Wal-Mart has taken over the world. I have been inside one a few times. I don't see how it is different from something we had back in the Dark Ages called K-Mart.

K-mart was less competently run (obviously, they no longer exist in parts of the USA), and Wal-mart tries to takes over every level of commerce they possibly can.

They make a desolation and call it "discount city". (Not sure they used that "discount city" monniker anymore, actually.)

Despite Walmart's reputation as a ruthless and soul-less killer of small-town businesses, it takes two to tango. About ten years ago, Walmart came to my wife's home town. There was already a K-Mart, a mall with a Sears, Belks (department store) and other shops, and some downtown businesses. Many of those stores had been in the community in some form for decades. Now, almost everything is gone except Walmart.
But Walmart didn't kill those other businesses on its own. They didn't haul people out of those other stores by force and make them shop at "Wallyworld."
It was because one could get a pair of pants there $3 dollars cheaper than at Belk's. A lawn mower could be $20 cheaper than at Sears. Bananas might be 10 cents a pound cheaper than at Kroger (which is gone now, too).
If having those other stores was so important to the local folks, then they should've been glad to pay a little more to keep the other stores in business. They went with the low prices.
Like I said, it takes two to tango. Walmart comes in and "addicts" the people to the "low prices," and they ignore their old stores. There's also the convenience of having everything they need under one roof. It's the wave of the future. Hey, it's business.

I don't like it, myself. But it's business. Hell, I even went to Walmart once to buy a small office stereo because they had it cheaper than Best Buy did.

Yeah, so Walmart is never the best for green chile, not even close to the best. I don't think it's ever even had Bueno. But it's cheap and it carries 505 and Hatch, so it's ok. I shop there. It's not terrible. However, I just heard the worst news that I can possibly imagine about a store. The Walmart near me is no longer carrying Hatch or 505 green chiles. I am so crazy ticked off, depressed, and anxious about where I'm going to get my green.

I am just livid. I think they just lost me as a customer!

Boycott Walmart!!

I wonder if this will help?

You committed theft, plain and simple. I agree with the Wal Mart reps -- how are they to know that the package did not have the missing CD? Think about it -- they put up with all kinds of low-lifes trying to get over on them to the tune of several million dollars per year. I can guarantee that had you been detained and subsequently arrested, a judge would have nailed you for shoplifting.

You learned the hard way to check your parcel before leaving a store. I've been stung when buying spark plugs when I once bought some and when I got home discovered the whole box had used plugs. Fortunately, I conduct a lot of business with that store, so the people there know me. Since then, I open ever single package whenever buying auto parts to look for missing seals, fasteners, or other parts. You should also be aware that many stores do not offer exchanges or returns on certain electronic or electrical devices.

K-Mart exists as it was reformatted after bankruptcy; however, it merged with Sears, which is the early to mid 20th Century version of Wal Mart (screwed over suppliers, ran small business out, etc). Sears is doing so poorly that it's getting ready to start selling off pieces of itself and may soon go out of business.

I dislike Walmart for making people stupid, but I think they might have been before Wlmart...

Just look at the south.
Unfair. Having lived in the south, north and midwest, I can attest to the fact that stupid people are everywhere...

Even on internet message boards. Hard to believe, I know. ;)

Nah, but thanks! :) The thing about Walmart is that they're convenient. Just takes longer to get food from other places. It just really messed with my head that Walmart would take away a New Mexican staple.

I loathe Walmart for a few reasons, all of which may seem superficial but I don't really care. The stores are strangely lacking in color or style. It's a giant beige warehouse lined with random crap on the shelves. Organization isn't always their strong suite and there's no happy feeling of wanting to walk around the store. It also gives off the impression of being dirty, even if it isn't. Target, on the other hand, is very bright and cheerful and seems a thousand times more organized and clean (again, it may just be a perception thing). The employees at Walmart always seems a bit "off", or at the very least, unfriendly. And the demographic that shops at Walmart is surprisingly different from what you find at Target.

Oh, right, I forgot that it's socially acceptable to judge people on an entirely superficial basis.

Our Walmart is generally clean, although I agree about Target. I have worked for both Target and Walmart, and both use completely different methods of motivation. Target spoke less and did more for their employees, while Walmart talked about spirit, cheer, family and community, but tended to shaft the employees on the important things, like wages, accurate time keeping, benefits and lunch breaks.

Oh, right, I forgot that it's socially acceptable to judge people on an entirely superficial basis.

Completely. Because if they dress wrong, then they are wrong.
