I think I officially hate Walmart

Walmart is complete shit, they treat the workers there like they are worse than dirt.

That said, I don't work there, and that can be said of many places.

As much as I dislike shopping at Wal-Mart, I've heard varying accounts from employees.

On the one hand, I've heard stories about them being tolerant, flexible, and accommodating of people with unusual schedules. There's the potential for upward mobility.

On the other hand, I've heard of troublesome employees being allowed to terrorize both customers and other workers, violations of federal laws regarding break allotment and overtime pay, and general managerial ineptitude.

In short, it all seems to depend on the particular store and its management. Some treat their employees very well, others treat their employees quite poorly, and you have everything in between.

The three rules of Real Estate -- Location, location, location. Problem is, most people just parrot a bunch of shit they hear and/or read on message boards.

^ You may laugh but that doesn't change the facts. Wal-Mart's health insurance plans are unaffordable, their wages suck, they make their employees work off the clock and skip breaks, and even LOCK THEM IN THE FUCKING STORE. Are you seriously telling us that's not mistreatment? :wtf:

I bought a gameboy color at wal-mart (full price) when I got the box home I noticed the To:Billy From: Mom & Dad merry christmas written in pen on the box, it was the lime green one so I figure the little shit threw a hissy fit over it and made them return it

as for k-mart, I go there for the games, i went into the one on Carlisle a few months ago and THEY HAD FREAKING SEGA GAME_GEAR GAMES

btw which wal-mart in Albu has made the suicidal mistake of no longer selling Hatch?

I am not sure I get how Wal-Mart has taken over the world.

They haven't, I think their success is pretty much limited to the American continent. They tried to get a foothold in Germany in the nineties for example and failed miserably.

I had respect for Germany before, but now I've upgraded to admiration.

They are poised to take over Asia. Once they get footholds in Japan and China there will be no stopping them. Especially if they can figure out how to establish themselves in India, but that's a stretch. They are like the death star of small business.

Japan's economy has heavily changed to discount retail and all the overpriced dinosaur shops are caving in. China's people will soon be able to afford these discounted items, and won't it be ironic since 95% of Walmart's stock is made in China anyway!

A coworker of mine told me a bit about his time working for Walmart. At his store, they would pack their warehouses so tightly that many items of merchandise were unattainable by store staff. If a customer wanted an item int he back that was out of reach, the customers would be informed that said item was "out of stock." He also had stories of employees being made to operate equipment they were not trained or certified to use, like stock pickers and fork lifts, as well as many a meal break violation.

The most evil practice I encountered at Wal-Mart is one that should be illegal:

If you work over time, you got to clock out and go home early to work that off -- "no overtime". For all intents and purposes, that's making you work off the clock; not getting paid for your time. IF you fucking want me or someone else to stay and do shit for you while you sit back in your chair, where a dress and flirt with special personnel who come in, get the fuck off your ass and help -- management already said supervisors can help when asked. You don't take MY time, and MY life away and give me nothing in return.

Yeah, the Wal-Mart around the corner has been turned into a real, without many changes.
I don't think their employee policies like the ethics statement were ever in effect here, though, since they're not compatible with German law.

I don't get why anyone would put up with that.

I mean, seriously, ask me to clock out and then keep working? Fuck you, asshole, I've got the labor board on speed dial!

^^ I think he means they're forced to take comp time instead of being paid overtime.

You aren't using the Wal-mart system correctly. While you can't return software, movies, etc. You can exchange them. You just go in there say the disc doesn't work in your hardware (DVD, computer, etc.) and you think the disc is defective and you would like to try another one.

Then you have a spanking new copy; and if they forget to mark your receipt, a returnable copy.
