This I don't get at all.If you have a short attention span ,then Star Trek is just not for you. (But with Star Trek 2009 I guess that's changed)
I've had people tell me out right that Trek bored them ,and I've had people tell me that they liked The Original Series but found the spin offs bland.

These are words the younger generation uses to trash the classics guys like us enjoyed when we were kids. In truth, they're meaningless.
My take on them, anyway.
Find some potheads. Get stoned with them. Put on some really fun stand-alone episode like VOY's Bride of Chaotica and they will be hooked.
You may also find that some of them are closeted Treksters (my term for young, 'cool' people who like Trek), just waiting for someone else who's 'cool' to come out of the Trek closet.
At least that's the way it worked for me. If you are confident enough and confortable enough with yourself and your interests, no one will give you a hard time.
Star Trek is cool. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
