I prefered Nemesis

Talk about an endangered species...

Seriously, I liked Nemesis--as an average television episode, not as a movie.

I think that Nemesis would have made a better two parter than Descent or Gambit...you could have had the Ent-D saucer crash into Shinzon's ship on auto-pilot to destoy it instead of Data's sacrifice, and could have gotten new bridge sets to boot when they replaced the saucer.

That being said, I don't think it is even really fair to compare Star Trek and Nemesis, considering the differences in the productions of the two films.

All the Berman produced Trek movies were flat, average two-part TV episodes. The production values, camera work, and music were boring, cheap and flat (I felt Goldsmith was really held back A LOT, which was a CRIME IMO). I hated the sets, which were mostly redressed TV sets that had cheesy neon lighting - talk about cheesy. Engineering in the new movie might have looked like a brewery, but in Berman's Trek it looked like a Dairy Queen!

And NEM's plot? Lame. For all they tried to make Shinzon to be Picard, he was essentially Picard's long lost twin. That's it! Clones aren't some kind of special, mystical entities like they were making them out to be in the movie. "I am YOU!" Ummmm... no. What BS.

ST09 may have had some flaws, but unlike NEM its hits far outweigh the misses. And it was a damn fun movie too, which NEM definitely was not.

nemesis was tng's version of star trek 5.

Every fifth Trek movie kills a kitten!

For real. I always explained Final Frontier by saying "well you know how Trek can be, it was an odd numbered movie" (never mind that I loved Search for Spock). So how do I explain that the two worst movies are FF and Nemesis? It's all about being divisible by five. Look at the evidence! ;)

Nemesis summed up everything wrong with the TNG films.

Picard does not land on planets and start shooting the shit out of things for no reason other than his own amusement. Especially pre-warp planets. It felt like no one behind the scenes had seen the damn show either.

That not fair. Its clear by how Data and Troi were characterized that someone had watched TNG...up until about season 3. Which is why every character seemed to have forgotten any personality developments that had occurred post Best of Both Worlds Part 1.

Ok, so you think all the other movies were better than Star Wars Trek?

Yes, call me old fashioned but when I go to see a Star Trek movie id like to see a Star Trek movie.

You have a point. Nothing up to this point has come close to the feel of The Original Show. So, in a way you're right. This movie felt nothing like TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, or the last 5 or six movies. You're right.

Nemesis lost me at the FIRST SCENE. They spent SEASONS of TNG building up a warm, credible romance between Worf and Troi, and out of nowhere she's marrying Riker? Dafuck? The movie just gets worse from there.

"not feeling like a Trek movie" was my biggest concern about STXI. But right from the opening scene it felt like a Star Trek movie, that concern went away after about 30 seconds.

Nemesis is an underrated movie, but the new movie is better.

TMP didn't "feel" like Trek when it came out.
TNG REALLY didn't "feel" like Trek when it first aired.

And so on.

I can't believe I'm actually defending 'Nemesis' but it makes perfect. Troi/Worf was undone when Worf moved onto DS9 and MARRIED Jadzia Dax. Riker coming out of nowhere? In the previous movie, 'Insurrection', they were sharing a bath and essentially acting like a couple of horny teenagers. Their marriage was loooooooooooooong overdue, and is something the movie did right. IMHO.

Star Trek clearly felt like a Star Trek movie because it recaptured the feel of the original show. It just didn't feel like something produced by Rick Berman. I see no reason to bitch.

I watched parts of it last night on AMC. It was as bad as I remember.

So did I..accidentally came across it. My five year old son asked me if it was a STAR TREK movie..and I said no. I told him it was a low-budget fan-made film..because that is what the FX, and SOME of the acting, reminded me of...In fact, thats being too kind. Some of the Fan-productions are actually watchable..NEMESIS isn't

Lied to the lad so he wouldn't associate Trek with Dreck...!

Heh ok...I guess I completely forgot that other steaming pile of a movie.. :)

Define what specifically makes a Star Trek movie a Star Trek movie, and how those features were lacking in the new film.

And color me shocked that a guy with a user name and avatar of Shinzon prefers Nemesis. :p I hear T'Bonz likes Romulans too.

I don't think NEM was quite as bad as people say, but it was utterly mediocre. Given where Trek was at the time, it was like running a ground play when you're 3rd and 15 with one minute to go.

Oh wait, I just remembered the dune buggy scene. I changed my mind, it was as bad as people say.
