Yeah, I watched it a while back. Posted my thoughts on page 90.
First Flight was great. One of the best episodes of the season.
I do find it amusing though how diversity has gone out the window in the prequel. Seems like everyone back at Starfleet headquarters is a middle-aged white man.
Outside of the cheesiness of bringing back the Borg in a prequel, they did it in the best way possible by making them survivors from the First Contact sphere wreckage.
That limited them severely so they wouldn't roflstomp Earth, but they still were a major threat and pretty creepy.
It was a bucket list episode, but one of the better ones.
I just thought the ending was the corniest thing ever.
"Looks like we're just gonna have to wait another 200 years (and not even send a warning back home to have them prepared)!"
It also dabbles a bit in time travel as you said, which is... messy.
It completes a moebius loop... kinda.
The retconned a couple of times when and how the Borg learned of the Federations/Earth's existence.
I found it kind of neat that the Borg of First Contact still had bad consequences in the end.
Makes Data look a bit sloppy for failing to mention, that the sphere wreckage was still on Earth before returning to the future, which might cause a problem.
Or he actually was aware of the Borg's role down the line and didn't mention it to preserve the time line.
Season 2's a wrap!
Overall, I didn't really care much for it. It was VOY. It was TNG. It was everything that I expected it to be in the worst way possible.
Thankfully, The Expanse seems to kick off what could be a turning point for the show. I've been anticipating season 3's Xindi story arc for quite a while now after hearing what you guys said, and hey, I'll take anything that deviates from the norm at this point.
*cue long rant about Hoshi being the most boring and neglected main character in all of Trek*
Also, it's been a long road, but I think the theme song has finally grown on me.
I have failed you all.
I assume this post was referring to the Borg and T'Pol Pon'farr episodes?
Yeah... I see what you mean.
I tend to view Cogenitor as yet another of Brannon Braga's extra special mental "Letters to Penthouse" with an ethical dilemma bolted on. Notice how often he comes up with weird sexual or reproductive subjects. Does anyone else worry that he might own a late model windowless van and a small poodle named precious?
Those were the heavily promoted ratings bait Cogenitor was our most recent Brannon Braga reinventing how to insert tab A into slot B episode. Although it isn't quite as icky this time as he leaves the details to his twisted imagination.
Even with Mayweather sitting there staring off in to space? Literally!
Like a fungus.
Good thing they spice the song up in season 3.
Apologies if this is a spoiler, I forget what episode it's from. But there is a throwaway line somewhere involving the Time Traveling Federation future dude where he outright states that Hoshi and Mayweather are completely and utterly unimportant and are totally irrelevant to the timeline or the future. Yeah, they put that in there. Honestly the only really good Hoshi story that I remember is Through a Mirror Darkly. I don't think I could even name a scene that Mayweather was in after that idiotic "gravity sweet spot" bit from Broken Bow. He manages to be more boring and invisible than Chakotay.
Gonna be busy over the next couple weeks, so season 3's gonna have to go on hold for now
Well it's not like they really made much use of Mayweather's background except i the odd episode. Hoshi got slighlty more attention than Mayweather.
Like I said, Mayweather's whole job was to just sit there and literally stare off into space.
