I distinctly remember reading this when I was a kid, though I never found out if there was any kind of a followup or an explanation as to what was going on.
The storyline was this: A radio DJ is wrapping up his show. He closes up his station and gets in his car, where he puts on a tape of the show he's just done. As he's driving home, he listens to it. Then he continues to listen to the tape when he's in his apartment. Pull back...
...to find that the DJ's apartment is the only building left standing in the entire city, which has all been blasted to smithereens.
