I need a hobby and I have no artistic skills

How about watching Sci-fi?

I lol'ed.

If you want to express your aesthetic side, it doesn't have to be as primary creation of arts & crafts. It can also be designing, or even in synthesising works others have created into a fresh whole. For instance, that's how I view my interest in clothes.

I could also see someone finding a similar aesthetic satisfaction from interpretation and critique of another medium. I find this in appreciating wine, for example.

Point is, expressing oneself is not merely a matter of primary creation, though of course I'm certain that must be incredibly fulfilling too, if one is sufficiently talented in that direction.

And the cheaper the better with things.

Collect things. Stamps, world currency, antiques, works of art, lost souls... everyone's got a collection of something. :D

I collect coins, stamps are stupid. But it's not creative.

I also have no artistic talent. Regrettably, photography is one of my hobbies... one of the most expensive art related hobbies there is. It is fun, though... and involves cool toys.

I love taking pictures, and getting a new camera for Christmas, but like you said to really get into it I would need an expensive camera. It's creative to a point, but I would have to go out and take pictures and hope to find something cool, but it's s fucking cold outside I normally only do that in the summer.

Try scale models, it should appeal to your area of interest.

Not a bad idea. I'm a huge fan of LEGOs, so it's kind of the same thing.

Take up reading. It's a two-for-one hobby. You get to collect many interesting books, AND read them.

What's that? Oh I wasn't paying attention. I have an attention span of about 10 minutes. I do collect gardening and nature books. :)

How about watching Sci-fi?

If any there was a channel that showed some. But once again, that's not creative, and not a hobby. :p

*hands you a .22 pistol, a gun safety manual and a box of ammo* go have fun

Me likely....

*points it at you* :)

If only, the guy I liked... I don't know is bi-polar or something.

Have you thought about trying needlecrafts? Cross-stitch, rug-making, knitting etc - they're artistic and you create things, but they don't require the same sort of artistic talent as painting because you can work from patterns.

(and before anyone says that's just a girl's thing, my dad makes rugs and does cross-stitch :techman:)

I suggest paint-by-numbers. It may sound childish but they have got some really intricate and detailed ones out there that take a while to finish. I frame the ones I complete.

I also recommend crocheting. It's fun to make stuff using patterns, and after you do it enough you could even start creating your own designs. You also get some nice clothing items out of it. And you can do it while you watch tv.

Perhaps you could try cooking? It's become one of my favorite hobbies to try new recipes (and a couple of years ago, I couldn't really cook at all). When an experiment goes well, you can savor the yummy results. When it doesn't go well, you can put it in the refrigerator for your loved one(s) to eat as leftovers. :D

Thanks for all the ideas (even if most of them suck :p ), and keep they coming! :)

I was going to say it's a gay thing and I'm not sure if I need to fit anymore gay stereotypes. :p But I have thought about that too.

Google sketchup is free, try working with it.

Neat-o

You could make motivational posters.

If Bush can give speeches i could at least make posters...
"Keep your government hands off my medicare!" Opps wrong posters.

I do cook already, I have been cooking for years.

I was going to suggest this. Also you don't actually have to be good at whatever creative outlet you choose. I've found I get better at most of them with time, but some I don't. I'll never be a painter. I'm slightly better at sketching, getting better at cooking, and occasionally I can write something worth reading.

Keep in mind even if you're looking at expressing yourself in say, picture form, there are so many different ways. Charcoal pencils, watercolors, pastels, etc. I love making things out of clay. You could try an instrument! If all else fails, grab some crayons and color in some coloring pages. It's not a hobby but it's incredibly fun and stress relieving.

I tend to bake things when I'm bored, often cupcakes. I used to be a complete disaster in the kitchen but things really do get better with practice. Don't be scared to fail a bit!

Clay... I completely forgot about clay... hmmm... I like that idea....

Oh I can color and every time I do my mom will somehow see and go "How old are you?"

Take up some courses. Somebody has to show you the techniques for you to get satisfying results and there's no need to invent the wheel on your own. If you want to write or want to draw, it's better to stick with that and work on it until you can do it well, instead of doing anything that you can do reasonably well from the start, but aren't interested in doing.

I think everyone has artistic talent to some degree - it's the skills we lack, but those can be learned.

I have no money, I'm poor. :(

Hmm... I have the same problem. So... there are books that supposedly teach you how to draw (or write a novel). Try your library (or interlibrary loan if they don't have the book you want).

Or you can put up an ad where you offer something in exchange - they teach you how to draw, you teach them how to cook, for example.
