I love DS9...

I'm a few CDs into the 3rd season now. Keep in mind I haven't seen this show before, so all the advancements about Odo and the Dominion were completely new to me :). I'm really not used to this kind of continuity and respect for canon in a Star Trek... DS9 has a rather dark quality to it that makes it almost more "real" than some of the other treks I've seen. While Earth society may be internally without traditional economics, it seems the rest of the galaxy is centered around a more traditional capitalist kind of commerce. Great show, I'm really enjoying it and I'm excited for more!! :) I just finished "Merdian", a really great episode about Dax and her plans to move to a inter-dimensional planet with a new lover. All the characters are really coming together.

I love DS9.

Well, glad you are enjoying the show! And the good news is that the best is yet to come! If you love it by season 3, I'm figurin' you're gonna need a Niner t-shirt and the secret handshake by season 6.

:borg:

Welcome!

Is Meridian the one with the B-plot where Quark is trying to get a holoimage of Kira for that random Jeff Combs alien?

Ironically, "Meridian" is one of those episodes deemed so misconcieved Ira apologised for it in the DS9 Companion, IIRC. :)

Anyway, glad to see you're enjoying the show. Things get better still as you go along...

Don't forget the Maurader Mole decoder ring too! :guffaw:

I rather envy you. I would love to be seeing it for the first time. I love all the Trek shows, but DS9 will always be a little more special than the rest.

When you finish the show, read the DS9-relaunch books. They're as good as the show, IMO.

to the OP: congratulations and I envy you! welcome to a great show. believe me, it gets better than Meridian. ;)

PS. what'd you think of Duet?

Yes, it gets so much better. Especially going into seasons 5 and 6, with - well, I won't give it away, but there is some truly great stuff going on there.

I also agree with what you were saying about how all the other shows pale when compared to DS9 in terms of continuity/story arcs.

I would, however, say that I think they concluded the series very well, and that I don't like the continuation books one bit. The "unofficial" books are very good, though.

Well, I sort of watched DS9 in first runs, but misses so much in the fourth season that I decided to stop watching....couldn't follow it. So when they went way down in price I bought the whole series. Have worked my way to the end of season 6...have about 8 episodes to go.

I must say I really enjoy this show. I didn't know if I would like it as much as I do, but glad I am watching some of them for the first time.

Looking forward to the rest of 6 and all of 7

Danoz: welcome to enlightenment ;)
Just to echo other thoughts I envy your first viewing. I recently re-watched them as I am introducing my partner to ST and enjoyed it but nothing is as good as the first time.
Things get even better from S4. The reason DS9 is so gr8 IMHO is the character development. There is no other ST show that compares and it created it's own environment.

Oh and ignore the naysayers and Behr's critiscism in the companion you are not alone in thinking Meridian is a top ep.

DS9 has been on satellite broadcast in Japan four days a week, and right now I'm taping #165. Pretty soon it will be end of series, followed by one Trek movie then Voyager, which I've already got on tape. And there's almost nothing else on TV in Japan I want to watch. Season 2 of Boston Legal, season 5 of 24, and season 5 of Alias are almost a year away. I usually watch only one show a day, on tape, during dinner. So it's going to be old tapes for quite a while after DS9 finishes--back to Emissary, I guess.
