...was a REAL BAND!
And I spent about a half hour trying to convince hin otherwise. He finally gave me an open when he said "That lead singer looks like Lenny fro Laverne & Shirley". I then told him "That IS the guy!". That finally convinced him. Just thought I'd share this funny and true story.
I saw them live when they toured to support that album. They recorded a second album in 1992, Break Like The Wind.
Still funny songs, but also good. Go figure, they're better than a lot of "real" bands.
The point was, the movie came first, then the band.
This dude thought the band existed before they made the movie.
Gotta love how the internet has to make everything extremely complicated!
So what does that mean for Tenacious D?
Are you suggesting The D is not a real band?
Tap played live at the Freddie Mercury tribute and at Live 8 (or was it Live Earth?)

David St Hubbins: "We've cut our set down just a bit today. Because Freddy would have wanted it that way" (as cameras pan down to set list taped to the stage with only one song on it). Sadly, their performance of "Majesty Of Rock" was cut from the official release of the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Bastards! I saw Tap live four times and they rocked me to my hell hole every time.
Also, The Rutles were great! Who will ever forget being a part of Rutlemania and the first time they heard their favorite song by the Prefab Four?
