With one exception, I agree entirely.
I bought the massive two-volume tome with every cartoon of the series, and had many enjoyable hours reading through them recently.

The strip covers a length of time in consequential to the real time passing. It's likely showing us those times Calvin was out playing, not when he was being berated by his mom for breaking the heirloom vase again and to just go outside and play while she pops a Xanax and takes a nap.
Hobbes is a pooka.
If that were so, his word balloons would all be in lower case.
