I just realized... Calvin's mom had no job!

I know I'm in the minority, but these pieces of fan art don't make me feel wistful so much as give me the urge to pull out my own eyes.
Most of them, yes. Not this one:

I love that. It faithfully homages both the spirit and the style. :bolian:

I like most of that fan art. Especially with adult Calvin envisioning Hobbes as an actual tiger, not the anthropomorphic one we're used to.

And I admit, adult Susie is cute.

I actually don't mind most of the fanarts I've seen (with one or two exceptions).

One thing I remember fearing when I was little was that when I grew up, I would stop seeing the magic in things around me. I actually found The Velveteen Rabbit to be a scary story for that reason, because it put the idea in my head that part of growing up was losing your imagination.

Thankfully I made sure that wasn't going to be true, by writing.

So when I see the older Calvin with a more detailed Hobbes, I guess it's easy for me to see myself. I would wonder if that older Calvin was an author (published or not, doesn't matter) and Hobbes had become a story character he was writing. :)

When I was a kid, "Puff the Magic Dragon" was sad to me for the same reason. Luckily, my definition of growing turned out to be "adding," not "substituting," so I was immune to that death of the spirit.

Call me conservative, but I always thought an intact family is one where the father works and the mother raises the kids. Or the other way round. Both parents working and leaving the kid to some nanny or whatever isn't as good.

It comes down to a very personal decision. Unfortunately many people in today's world feel they have no choice in the matter. Mr. Whoa Nellie and I have made many sacrifices over the years so that I can be a full-time, stay-at-home mom because that was what we felt was important.

To the OP, Calvin's mom had a job, one of the most difficult, demanding, under-appreciated, and momentous jobs of all. There is an old saying, "The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world." ;)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Uh, read the OP again. I acknowledged that she had a very real job in raising Calvin. ;)
