I Just Can't Take It Anymore!

Starting at about 9 o'clock last night, emanating from somewhere to the East, coming right in through my bedroom window, has been the BEEP BEEP BEEP. It's the sound a truck makes when it backs up: BEEP BEEP BEEP, followed by a two second pause, then BEEP BEEP BEEP. But it doesn't stop. It never stops. Not for a moment. For 26 -- that's TWENTY SIX -- hours. And it's still BEEP BEEP BEEPing. BEEP BEEP BEEP. It sounds like it's coming from the next block over, kind of distant but still very loud. I went out to escape, I came home, and it's still BEEPing. At some point during the night I heard a neighbor scream frustratedly out her window, "Turn that damn thing OFF!" But it wasn't turned off. I fear it will never be turned off. I went out again, I came home, and it's still BEEPing! I didn't stop. It's not stopping! Why won't it stop? Why won't it stop? How do I make it stop?

Sounds like someone needs to call the police. Might be someone's car alarm or something. Maybe the cops can break into the car and turn the damn thing off, in the interests of public safety.

Otherwise, when the owners of whatever is going off come home, they are gonna find a mob of majorly pissed off neighbors who haven't slept in 2-3 days.

I mean, this is even worse than the couple of times I've had someone mistakenly dial my phone number on a fax machine and then go away for a long holiday weekend.

I finally had to unplug all my phones because they were ringing every 10 minutes...but jeez...at least I could make it stop until someone got back 3 days later.

You, OTOH, are screwed until the owners of the BEEP turn up again.

I hate beeping. I can't stand it when people ignore their alarm clocks or mobile phones, or when car alarms are going off in the street or when people have the keytones switched on on their phones.

Phone the police. One, they'll track it down,. Two, if it's because of a robbery, they should know. Three, if it isn't, they'll hopefully issue a ticket for unwarranted noise.

Well anybody else would go out and find out where the noise is coming from, I thought that much would be common sense and pretty obvious and then whatever it is either smash it up or get someone to turn it off.
I mean you say you went out twice to escape the noise, in those two times you were out you didn't hunt the noise down?
