I hope Star Trek comes back to TV someday.

Everything seems to get remade at some point. But, we are assuming that television will continue to be as it is. It won't. It has been changing and rather drastically. Will Viacom sell the rights for someone to make another Star Trek series? In the present atmosphere of entertainment media, I say no.

I think Star Trek makes more money in the movies. As such, it'll always be movies from this point on. I don't think we'll ever see another Star Trek series, except for fan-made productions. We may eventually see a "pseudo variant", that has a different ship design, terminology, and concept, but with the main premise of a future Federation of sorts exploring the galaxy. But for the foreseeable future, it's very unlikely Star Trek will be a series once more.

I can't really give my opinion since English is not my mother tongue. However, it's obvious it doesn't look like some Nobel prize winner's masterpierce. I'm reading numbered books from DS9 and TNG, and it just seems to be some kind of sequels and extra episodes, which are often quite nice to read but only for a trekkie.
Perhaps it gets better in the recent works ? What about the DS9 relaunch novels for example ?

Generally speaking, later Trek novels tend to be better than earlier ones. There are some very good ones out there. They do tend to be directed towards a fan audience, though, just like all tie-in literature.
The DS9 relaunch is generally considered to be among the best TrekLit has to offer so you should check it out if you're interested. I liked it a lot, but I read all Trek novels in English because the German translations are often pretty bad, I've found. Also, I feel less 'un-snobbish' reading tie-in novels this way because at least I'm practicing my English. I can't vouch for the French/Flemish translations (should the latter even exist). Another recommendation of mine would be the Vanguard series (it plays in the era of the Original Series). I also like the Titan series (Riker's new ship) but it can be a bit overly melodramatic at times.

As for the topic at hand, I hope it comes back to TV one day, too.

I am sure it will at some point reappear on TV in a brand new series. When and who will helm it are not so easily answered.

I actually like all the ST...even Voyager...and I hope it comes back someday. And Voyager actually wasn't that bad like some people claim to be...I watched it every week. I was only joking. But I guess the movies are the best they can do for now.

Both Treks (1966, 1987) were instigated by a person who wanted to tell stories with a certain outlook in general, who found companies that would partner with him.
Gene Roddenberry?

A man who himself could not follow his own vision in the real world?

He raked in so much money from telling people that it was utterly sinful and morally degrading to embrace money that he may as well have been a televangelist on the convention circuit! :cardie:

A new iteration of Trek would be a corporation wanting to put out some product with a Trek brand name.

I'd say it's far more likely that Star Trek on TV will be the passion project of someone with a lot of clout who convinces the evil corporate bastards at CBS to take a risk.

There's certainly no strong business case to be made for putting Star Trek back on TV, especially since it would divert precious resources from the ten thousand cop shows that CBS could be doing instead.

But every so often, someone like Bryan Fuller or Seth McFarlane starts yakking about how they'd like to do a new show. When someone like that gets serious enough to go beyond yakking, then maybe something will happen.

I too hope for another weekly series. I won't be so bold as to come up with its vision; I'll leave that to those with skills for writing and producing. I'm a huge fan of TNG and DS9 and was disappointed over all with the TNG films. The series set in the 24th century had ensemble casts of seven main characters and that doesn't translate well to the big screen. The exception was First Contact, which spent time with each main character rather than just Picard, Riker, Data, and the Queen.

The bigger the main cast, the greater the need for it to have the time afforded by a weekly series to develop them all. ENT tried at first to have a larger main cast but quickly made the show a triad (Archer/Trip/T'Pol) in a futile effort to emulate TOS. Pity. Shows like BSG, Game of Thrones, and even Dexter take advantage of the TV format to develop characters and their unique relationships with others. That's what Trek is missing for me now.

In regards to a weekly Trek series, I'll paraphrase JL Picard: Make it soon!
