I hated the Q character but

I liked Q, but I can absolutely do without DS9s Mirror Universe episodes. Honestly, if the use of the mirror universe concept had ended with the original "Mirror, Mirror", very little of value would be lost. And I say this as someone who regards DS9 as the best Star Trek show; DS9's use of the Mirror Universe has been by far my least favorite depiction of it. Just blech!

DS9's use of the Mirror Universe has been by far my least favorite depiction of it.

It definitely deteriorated over time.

Thing I remember most is how epically STUPID Smiley was... in "Shattered Mirror", Sisko tried to bring Chief O'Brien (i.e. the one person who probably knew the Defiant just as well or better than Sisko did) along with him. Smiley left him behind. If he hadn't been a frickin' idiot, he'd have left a note on the transporter widget saying "Bring my counterpart along with you, love and kisses, Smiley".

For that matter, an exact duplicate of the Intendant might have been useful as well, for some skullduggery or other.

If Smiley and Bashir, who hadn't been genetically enhanced and was probably dumb as a post, were what the Rebellion had as leaders, I doubt it survived long. They probably wound up flying their Defiant into a random asteroid.

Not helpful for an extremely annoying character.

Q and his DS9 treatment fitted in well with the story told of the Prophets - taking omnipotent/near omnipotent beings considered to be God's (or God-like) and taking them down a peg or two, showing their sheer fucking hubris and how much they have to learn about us, just as we have to about them.

Q couldn't conceive anyone standing up to him like that as, previously, Worf had tried to take him on physically (I believe) but Q was smart to S1 brute force Worf and just teleports himself out of the way whereas Sisko knew how to "box smart" and let Q think he was controlling the situation and used that cockiness against him to get the sucker punch in
