I found the most amazing walk-through of the E-D Main Shuttlebay

Phantom

Captain
as well as parts of Decks 1-3, showcasing some seldom/never seen areas like Two Forward, the Bridge Head, etc. But the truly impressive part is the Main Shuttlebay, which appears to be based on the Sternbach plans (which are as close to official as we are likely ever to see). The video even includes an approach and landing.

It is very impressive. In some ways it looks so wrong seeing a shuttlebay that large compared to what we got on the TV show, but in reality it is probably more realistic than what we got on the TV show. :)

It looks like a massive work environment and gives a sense to what the 1000 people on board did as part of the workings of the E-D. I think I would get lost within all the corridors though trying to find my way around!

Need to get out my Sternbach plans when they release this to find my way around.

Is this what Donny is planning for his versions, or is he just making specific areas for walk-throughs?

The Enterprise finally has a sense of scale thanks to the CGI shuttlebay.

Yeah, it's being discussed in the TNG forum, and as I said there, I want so much for this to be completed. Or at least halfway completed. I would seriously pay full-price for this (in "game" terms) even if there were no game elements and all that you did was walk around and interact with consoles, order stuff at replicators, go in rooms, and see the ship in all its glory.

Science labs, the dolphin tanks, rec areas, the arboretum, quarters....it's a huge ship and we saw so little of it on the show. This is a nerd-dream come true.

we did get one very brief glimpse at part of it in "Cause and Effect". But there was just no way they could afford to build that as a shooting set. They couldn't even afford that for one of the movies...which is annoying, because I would pay good money to see that shuttlebay with a full staff and all its normal activity going on.

ETA: I started this thread before I saw the one in the TNG forum. In my defence, I only go in there once in awhile.

Just pulled out the Sternbach prints and walked along with the video. Except for a few minor things like an extra door to get into that deck 3 lounge above the shuttlebay, or acouple of extra doors in the shuttlebay beside the row of shuttlepods, the vid is accurate to the plans as far as I can tell.
Darn impressive!

Agreed - What I find really impressive is that they took those plans, which were quite stark and dry of any real close-up detailing and had woven them seamlessly into a TNG-era aesthetic that you could easily see on any 24th century-based episode. Truly astounding work. Sadly, there is no way my old PC could support the layout and engine they're working with. Way too obsolete. I'll have to live vicariously through YouTube for the next few years until I can afford a new one.

I liked how he added functionality by adding details like the "deck handling" tractor-beam emitters that slid on rails to move shuttles around the rear of the deck.

This is a great thing to see. I love all the detail, but there's one thing that bugs me: the type faces on everything. None of these fonts were used on the show and it makes me crazy. But EVERYTHING ELSE is amazing. I should over look the lettering, I now.

Just as soon as I stop the flow of tears I'm gonna go back and watch the whole thing again!!! Really, really terrific stuff!
Regards,
Chuck

The problem is that he can't get it published until whoever holds rights for Star Trek allows him.
How is this possible? There are fan-made Trek-related Minecraft maps out there, thousands of mods and conversions for games of copyrighted ship models, fan films, hard-copy and soft-copy publications beyond count. How is it that this one thing can't be ever be released until approval is given? This doesn't track.

How I understand it, one thing is to make mods and maps, and other is to make complete Star Trek game/sim. You may get away with it if it's free. But that is only how I understand it. Maybe the reality is different.

I believe that he's mentioned also incorporating the Ed Whitefire plans in some spots, but I haven't looked that much in-depth to see what's where.

Already pulled by CBS...

Why is this different from making a painting of the ship and displaying it online as your own artwork? He wasn't selling anything.

What a difference between Lucasfilm's relationship with their fans and Paramount's (now CBS). Of course Star Wars is now in the hands of Disney, the company that sues daycare centers where a parent volunteer paints a Mickey Mouse on a playground wall visible only from within the facility. Methinks legions of fan Stormtroopers are going to get visits from real stormtrooper lawyers any day now.

I'm glad I saw the video while I had the chance.
