Actually, I would think that would be bad timing on the parent's part.

I'd recommend reading the DS9 novels in order starting with Avatar. They're excellent, but they do build on each other, so it's a richer, deeper experience if you read them in release order. They're very much all about the characters growing and changing though.
 
Definitely. I think they would probably be enjoyable on their own, or out of order, but to really get the full experience you should read them all in order.
 
I'm the same. Baby of the family, simply because after they had me my parents realised they'd achieved perfection :guffaw:

I'm at the other end of the spectrum, the oldest of five, with my youngest sibling some seventeen years younger than me. So I guess it took my folks five tries to get it right. :)
