I'll admit I did watch it also, but only so I'd know what I was talking about if I ever wanted to participate in a discussion about it. I'm also a big believer in not complaining or criticizing a movie till I've seen it.
That said, the underlying attempt at deeper meaning of the storyline and the characterization in Sucker Punch is sorely lacking and mostly troubling in its view of women.
In short, its a turd.

^ I feel sorry for those who can't be critical of a film made poorly, written poorly, ill conceived and poorly executed. When the producer admits the he blew it, and jeopardized the entire franchise, you my friend have a bad film.
Enjoying it on 6/9/89 as I did, doesn't mean its not a bad film. It means we were younger, less critical and hungry for a new Trek film.
I always was advanced for my age. I saw STV with open enough eyes that its faults did not bother me in the slightest. I could overlook them and get down to enjoy the film. And no, it being new was not the reason. I have seen several other Trek films when they were new and still disliked some of them whole liking others. STV is a favorite and I enjoyed it then as I do now. End of story friends. Period.
And no it is not a turd. Shatner had some beautiful ideas and were were fortunate some got into the film despite Paramount's sabotage.
You like to attack what you do not understand.
Since it's my favorite of TOS films and I also think it's the best directed as well.
....which is saying something, given how highly you think of that cinematic masterpiece Sucker Punch.
You claimed you felt Trek V is the "best directed."
Best is a qualitative term, which in this case especially is entirely subjective.
Referencing your love of Sucker Punch had less to do with you personally than it did in illustrating the central point I was making - One can like/love/enjoy a film, but that does not necessarily mean that said film is any good, either by personal, critical, professional, or general standards.
Sucker Punch is widely regarded as being a rather terrible film. As is Star Trek V. I wasn't trying to detract from your enjoyment of either nor was I trying to suggest that you shouldn't enjoy them. I was merely pointing out that opinions can vary.
I think it ranks as a better Trek film than TMP. I would put it on a par with Nemesis, as there were parts of both I really enjoyed and parts of both I didn't.
