I don't quite get it.

I'm just here waiting for the sweet release of death or for the wife to come home from work. Whichever comes first.

That's what I don't really see the point of, Star Trek has been off the air nearly 10 years now. And the last movie came out last year. It would seem that any discussions on Star Trek have already been done. I was looking through some of the discussions and they all seem to be the same conversations over and over, or "Caption This" type of thing. Unless a new series comes out, as the Q said, it's all been said and done.

Well, if you really love something, you kind of never want to stop talking about it.

For instance, obviously I love Star Trek. But I also love classic TV. I have other friends who like classic TV. Some of those shows haven't been on since the 80s but we sure still like talking about them! :)

I agree that a lot of the Trek discussion is repetitive. "The Nexus is lame!" "These Are the Voyages is an abomination!" "Why was [x] never promoted?" And from a certain point of view, all this endless rehashing is kind of lame.

But I've been posting here more than a decade, since before 9/11, since before some teenagers were born. A lot's changed since then, for the world and for myself. So it's pretty comforting, from another point of view, to know that there's always a place where I can debate the wisdom of introducing a Borg Queen, and where people will care enough to reply.

And that's just the Trek stuff. As others have said, there's far more to the board than Trek. :)

If some profoundly gifted poster could successfully combine the two they'd become an instant legend. And probably get a long-running History, TLC or E! channel show out of the whole concept.

I came for the Trek talk, stayed for the community. There are so many hours of Trek out there so there is always plenty to talk about but some of it has been done to death. Now I've mainly been talking about TNG on blu ray and I just got into the Deep Space Nine Relaunch so that's been very much new trek to me.

It's a good community here, even though I don't post nearly as much as I used to.

Ah nostalgia, I wonder if we'll still be talking about some shows from today in the 2040's?

Like minded people tend to gather together. We all have a common love of one or more forms of StarTrek. For me, this place has turned into a community I like to visit. It's always busy and there are members from all over the globe here.

Dear maquisleader,

I am sympathetic to your cause (unlike some people).

Please. Join us. For the horde!

.

oh, might have had too many beers, what evah anyway.. we speak of the future. Trek may be the past but it's stories are those yet to come. That's why we Keep talking about them, why we are still mulling and crapping onwards.

:: makes a Picard speech ::

I came for the STXI discussions and stayed for the [REDACTED] coming out of the [REDACTED].

Edit: Oh, and of course ye olde Blue Warp Nacelles.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why this message board will one day save the human race.

Like a couple others above, I came for Star Trek and stayed for the community.
This. Came for the Future of Trek subforum, stayed for Dr Who, General TV and the random stuff in Misc. Plus the danger of the subforum that dares not speak its name.

ETA: yes, if you really want to know why we're still here, check out the old Blue Nacelles thread, it is vaster than empires and more slow, but very entertaining.
