I don't get it.

^^
I do think that she had more than two emotional scenes and she did handle all of them well.

And if there are someone to blame in that case it's not Jennifer Lien and her character but bad writers.

bad writing or not, a good actor can make a "bad" scene good

That's a bunch of baloney. An actor can only do so much with what they are given. Have you watched some of Sci-Fi's cheesy movies? I don't think anybody can make some of those turds good.
Denzel Washington & Morgan Freeman do it all the time, just to name a few.

Kate Mulgrew, Jeri Ryan, Robert Picardo, Tim Russ & Roxanne Dawson did it with half the stories they were given on Voy. Say what you want about Voyager's stories but the acting by those actors was always on point. Speaking Technobabble is like talking baby talk but they all made you believe tacayon particles in the warp core were real.

So yes, I do agree a good actor can make a bad script bearible.

Have to agree, Jennifer Lien was one of the best of the ensemble (together with Kate Mulgrew, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo and Jeri Ryan).
Seconding this general feeling. Lien was too infrequently given anything really meaty to work with in her time on Voyager. When she was, she could really knock it out of the park - as in "Warlord", which rests its laurels on her fine megalomaniacal performance as Tieran.

Warlord is one of my favorite VOY eps. I also love seeing Lien woo Tieran's female lover. Shades of Turnabout Intruder, only better! And I loved how they visualized the internal struggle between Kes and the warlord. -- RR

Well, "Elogium" is a good example here. The episode itself is weak but Jennifer Lien's superb acting saves the episode from a total disaster.

Jennifer was brilliant the times she was allowed to stand under the spotlight, in episodes like "Cold Fire", "Persistence Of Vision", "Warlord", "Elogium", "The Swarm", "Before And After", "Caretaker" and many others. There were also episodes in which she had only 4-5 minutes totally but she still managed to make the best possible out of it.

As for the Voyager actors, they were great and their splendid acting did save many weak episodes.

However, it's impossible for a good actor to save a bad script if the actor is only allowed to stay in the background and watch, only being allowed to say "yes doctor" or "yes captain" in some sequence.

Elogium was the most rediculous episode ever, with Kes eating bugs and getting all sticky and gooey and having the Doctor rub her feet. The whole episode was horrible. How does a species survive at all when they're reproductive cycle looks like this......

I was going to mention "Warlord". Lien certainly delivered on that that one which made her leaving even more of a shocker.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Well, "Elogium" is not the strongest of Voyager's episodes to say the least and the writers did mess up the Ocampa species pretty badly.

But it's definitely not as ridiculous as some other episodes, like stupid, horrible episodes where people turn to lizards or visits their dead mothers in hell and it does not insult and annoy certain fans of certain characters either.

And the episode is actually saved by Jennifer Lien's superb acting.

"Warlord" is great. Another episode where Jennifer Lien's superb acting is really showing! :techman:

it's definately not as bad as Cold Fire:lol::lol:

There a lot of Voyager fans out there, a lot of devoted fans. I just don't get it, the whole we're stranded in the middle of space concept is ridiculously stupid to me

There. You've already written off the whole concept. So why would any of the other elements matter to you?

"Cold Fire" is Voyager's best episode and one of the best episodes ever in Star Trek.

then we're going to disagree....because I think it's one of the WORST episodes

Then we'll do that.

I must also respectfully add that ridiculing other posters by laughing at their posts is a bit.....rude, to say the least.

It may be allowed on some uncivilized forums but I'm not so sure that it's acceptable here.

who's laughing at your post?

Well, someone was ridiculing my opinions about "Elogium" in this thread.

And the same person did the same with my opinion about my favorite episode "Cold Fire" as well.

Not to mention some extremely rude comments about my website and my English language skills.

Not particularily nice, to say the least.

Okay guys - take it to pm. We mods are watching the situation since insults (veiled or otherwise) take away from the enjoyment of the forum for everyone.

The next one who continues this will get a warning.

You just had to continue it! Warning for trolling. Comments to pm.

I was responding to a post made BEFORE yours so I didn't see your post until AFTER.

and I still want an answer, why is it ok for him to insult an episode he knows I like, but when I comment on an episode he likes it's "trolling"

it seems like the same rules don't apply to everyone
