I don't get it.

Sorry, I must disagree here. I see no reason of exploring aging and death, maybe if the series had been set in a period of 100-200 years and the scenario would have included all characters, but not for one, single character.

I do think there are enough of tear-filled soap operas on TV which covers such scenarios.

I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on this then. I personally believe that issues like aging and death are pretty much avoided by a Hollywood that worships youth and beauty. The only Trek episode that explored the issue at all was the TOS one where Kirk & Co. caught a disease which was of course magically cured by the end of the episode. Another lost opportunity, imo.

yeah, aging and death would have been wonderfuly dramatic and character building scenes. It's a good thing they didn't do it because Jennifer Lien was too weak of an actress to be able to handle such an intense scene

Personally I don't like when our favorite characters are killed off and I don't think that the Voyager fans would have liked seeing some of them catch deceases which would kill them slowly or see them age and die. I have a feeling that such a series would have lost its viewers fast.

There was a suggestion in another post that the series should have dealt with that problem by killing off a couple of main characters during the journey and I remember that some fans who stated their love for the characters opposed such a scenario.

As for Jennifer Lien, she 's actually great in handling emotional scenes. I did watch "Elogium" yesterday and she's simply brilliant in that one. The episode itself is one of the weaker episodes in seasons 1-3 but she actually saves it with her superb acting. She's definitely a great actress, as good as the others and actually better than some of them.

it's hard to tell how she would handle emotional scenes because she had what, two in the whole show  and honestly neither of them were very good. The one thing I did love about Elogium was when Neelix gave Kes the flowers and she started eating them. That look on her face when he picks her up is so funny

^^
I do think that she had more than two emotional scenes and she did handle all of them well.

And if there are someone to blame in that case it's not Jennifer Lien and her character but bad writers.

bad writing or not, a good actor can make a "bad" scene good

Have to agree, Jennifer Lien was one of the best of the ensemble (together with Kate Mulgrew, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo and Jeri Ryan).

your avitar is hypnotic

:rommie: Heh, you're right. Haven't thought about that one. My dirty imagination is just seeing other ... things in his motions. ;)

Well the notion that I didn't think of that first myself, is just ... pretense. :p

And, since you changed your avatar, shouldn't you change your location? Speaking of which, I saw some one else with it, which pisses me off because I wanted it. :klingon:

That's a bunch of baloney. An actor can only do so much with what they are given. Have you watched some of Sci-Fi's cheesy movies? I don't think anybody can make some of those turds good.

but only blaming a bad actor on "bad writing" is baloney. Perhaps what I sould have said was a good actor can make a "bad" scene seem better.

Seconding this general feeling. Lien was too infrequently given anything really meaty to work with in her time on Voyager. When she was, she could really knock it out of the park - as in "Warlord", which rests its laurels on her fine megalomaniacal performance as Tieran.
