Who's on top?

It sounds fine, with the stipulation that - as you say - no screen time is wasted on the how or why.

Well, if I've already won you over, [whatever your name is today], then my work here is done.

well here is another person you won over.
i like the dialog and that we are not told (for now) how this came about.

great scene

Plenty of schmaltzy moments. There are plenty of precedents.

Multiple sources confirm that William Shatner will return to the big screen in the JJ Abrams Star Trek vehicle. The film is currently scheduled for a Christmas Day 2008 premiere. Shatner is expected to begin filming in late November.

I wonder who he is playing? Captain James Kirk Dad?

Re: I Changed My Mind! I Want Shatner as Kirk In Star Trek

I like the general idea, and it's along the lines of what I'd hoped for. Though I think the whole Nexus thing was utter tripe, I might revise the exchange slightly to have one of them allude to how difficult dealing with the Nexus was, only to have the other cut him off in a friendly way before he can provide a full explanation. Of course, so-called non-fans won't have any idea what's going on, but let's be honest -- the film is still being made with fans as the primary audience, in hopes that it will somehow cross over to a wider audience.

Actually, if the makers of this film just apply some imagination, they could write it in such a way that Kirk never dies in the Nexus in the first place. I'm always amazed at what a box so-called movie sci-fi writers put themselves in nowadays.

Kirk and Spock deserve a real send off. I don't think that it would be too much like "These are the Voyages" because A) "Star Trek: Enterprise" stunk and B) that episode
stunk even more than most of the episodes. The failure wasn't so much the concept but the tedious execution.

He's playing Kodos, the Governor of Tarsus IV. (obviously, before the food gave out...)

No

I thank you for your well thought-out and insightful contribution to the topic.

You have made me rethink my opinion on everything.

I'm so ashamed. :o

Oh come now, all you need to do is look at Shatner's body of work since Generations and his bizarre caricature real life and you can see why the answer is self evident.

Like the hit show he's on right now and his multiple Emmys? Arguably his best work ever?

...and you can see why the answer is self evident.

Agreed. Glad you're with me. :bolian:

This only proves my point. Boston Legal started off as, and has escalated even more-so, into a very broad comedy that is almost unwatchable these days. Denny Crane is basically Bill Shatner or a reasonable facsimile of his more recent public persona as a caricature. Shatner in ST:Generations was also Kirk in the same vein. Either way its nothing like the Shatner/Kirk of TOS, and never will be.

Well, if he shows up at the last minute, you'll just have to deal, I guess.

I'll be fine with the young Kirk appearing...just as long as Shatner's not in a cameo hawking Priceline.com at Starfleet Academy.

Yeah, I'm sure they would go the Priceline.com route. Because that just makes incredible sense.
