A huge bombshell was dropped on my workmates and I yesterday and it only escalated further today. Basically, our company, which is based in San Diego, is going through a massive and unprecedented reorganization. Our president was moved out of his position and a new higher up team was put in place. So my coworkers and I, who live and work in the Boston office, were informed of this yesterday and find out that our new president is taking a redeye flight to Boston to come talk to us.
We start to get very scared, because eleven people in the west coast office were slashed and we're expecting him to come out here and tell us that we're finished. He arrives at about 9:30 this morning and informs us that the Boston office is, indeed, closing down. You could have heard a pin drop after that. Shortly after that, he wants to meet with us all one on one about what's happening.
Just as I am trying to process what happened, because it all happened so fast, I wasn't prepared for what I was about to be told.
I was offered, in fact, really encouraged, to relocate to San Diego with a huge promotion. All my expenses to get me there would be taken care of and I'd be working with an extremely talented team of people are banging out some amazing content for our company.
Needless to say, I'm just... shocked. I can't believe all that's going. It's almost too much for me to take in all at once. Nothing like this has ever been offered to me before.
Here are some of the things I was told; I was "amazing asset" to the company. They want me to work with a group of "Talented and high-IQ people like you [me] (Uh, what?)."
Some of the perks; I'm not tied down. I'm not in a relationship, I have no kids, nor do I own a house; just an apartment lease. My sister lives in L.A. and so do a few friends of mine. Also, I have a buddy who lost a job as a game designer and put in a resume at a company in San Diego.
This whole thing is just surreal and unbelievably overwhelming. I can't think straight. I just wanted to come here and post it because I need some way to vent this and share what's going on; even take some advice if anyone can provide it.
I'm just not sure what's going faster right now; my head or my adrenaline.
