Auto-drive cars would be easy to do if all road vehicles were required to be auto-drive. (and even easier if centrally managed) It becomes much harder when you introduce the random actions of human drivers.

Many luxury cars already have the rear parking assist which basically parallel parks the car on its own with little if any human intervention. I'd assume that the device also is programmed if the driver behind you started to pull out all of a sudden?

But generally I understand your point. You'd essentially have to mandate that all vehicles be in auto-drive mode for the system to work most efficiently and accurately.

Flying cars won't happen until they can solve the problem of flying lanes. Heck, the sky is already confusing enough for traffic control as it is. It would likely only cause more accidents.

Imagine the people driving the cars you encounter in your daily commute, only imagine the sky full of cars flown by those guys... inside Cheyenne Mountain would be the only safe place on the planet.

I want a device I can order to bring me another cup of coffee, a machine that'll clean up my home, do the dishes and washing and folding and whatnot, a gadget that tells me where to find the remote/phone/keys/spectacles/whatnot -and then gets it/them for me, a thingamagoo that functions as a maid and an alarm-clock and a doorbell and a phone answering service and a gardener and a coffee maker and a cook and a car washer and a home alarm system and a ...

I wouldn't have a problem with that.

A better solution, IMHO, would be to have all road traffic be a form of Personal Rapid Transit. No one would even need to own a car, let alone worry about driving one.
