"I Am Annika Hanson, Human"

JB2005

Commodore

Just watched Dark Frontier and realised something. Seven declares that she is Annika Hanson, Human. Why does she continue to be known as Seven of Nine after that? Surely the whole point is she has reaccepted her humanity?

Babysteps.

She can't go ignoring her Borg heritage until all that hardware has been removed.

Though, I don't think that she would be as interested in removing the Borg software, ie her stolen memories and the suspending architecture.

besides.

One joke from Tom about "Little Orphan Annie" and she's scoot right back to Seven of Nine.

Annika Hansen, Human... is her legal desgination.

Seven of Nine is her name.

My Pop found out when he went into the army that the name he went by for 18 years was wrong. His birth certificate had a different 1st name. So in the army he was known by his legal designation "X"... but back home everyone called him by the name they knew for 18 years..."Y".

Same reason she wore those ridiculous catsuits: they drew in outside eyeballs, and "7 of 9" sounded cooler than her real name.

Plus, it's pretty hard to get a new name or nickname to stick by force. If people call you something, it's pretty hard to get them to call you anything else. Creatures of habit and all. I would have found it a little off-putting if all of a sudden everyone was calling her Annika or Ms. Hansen all the time.

I actually found it endearing that they called her "Seven." Also loved that time Seven wrote a note to Doc and she signed it "Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix One." It just gave her character... more character.

I thought they called her just "Seven" because they were lazy.

Like I said, creatures of habit. It's exceedingly difficult for someone to change his/her name on the fly and hope people remember to use it.

Maybe it's just me, but it's still an uphill battle for my mother not to use my maiden name.

I meant they were too lazy to say "Seven of Nine Tertiary adjunct to Unimatrix 001" every time they wanted to bum a smoke.

like previous posters, I believe it just a force of habit, and even though she accepts her humanity and her beginnings, but for as longs as she can remember she's been Seven.

Suppose it has its basis in real life child kidnappings where they are found in later life and find it difficult adjusting to who they really are... but thats a bit too serious for a messageboard!

Really? I think if she'd asked people to call her Annika, instead of a designation from a race that kidnapped her as a child and killed her parents, people would adjust pretty darn quickly.

Lets lolly out a word which should change the nature of the playing field...

"Slavename"
Exactly.

Yeah that was rather my thought, fair enough up to Dark Frontier she still thinks of herself as Borg, but after that she's actively rejected the Borg and reproclaimed herself as part of humanity...
