I’m enjoying weekly Trek again.

It's episode 4 of Trek back on TV and I still feel that. I really thought Enterprise was it, the coffin was buried, and Star Trek was done. It feels surreal to be typing a message on a Trek message board the day a new episode of Star Trek will air. I really never thought we'd be here again and I hope no one has to go without Star Trek on TV from now on.

I too never thought I'd see a Trek on tv again, much less with a protagonist that I dislike so much. Every other Trek we were told we had to like the main protagonist, and mostly I did. But this one....I sincerely would smack her upside the head if I could. She's arrogant and has only superficial emotions....like that boss that pretends to give a crap about you, but really is just figuring out how to rule the world and if you get run over, then oh well, sorry. And that means I should hate the show, but I don't. If anything, I like it even more, because I like every single character EXCEPT her. Well, and the ridiculous Klingon looks...REALLY? OVERBOARD MUCH? Good makeup job, but this is Star Trek, not FACE OFF..

I used to feel that way about Enterprise, but I watched it again and changed my mind on the advice of a co worker who is a huge fan. But, I'm sorry that you feel that way.

Best thing about Trek in 2017 is that Berman and Braga and the old regime have moved on to other things. It gives the franchise the opportunity for rebirth. But it is interesting that some of the fans would like nothing better than for Trek to remain in the past.

Love that Trek is once again new every week.

I think what fans want isn't a show that remains in the past but better storytelling and dialogue, and if possible set and alien design (at least for the Klingons) that may be altered to maintain visual continuity but not drastically.

I've been disappointed by Discovery so far, but I'm really happy to have weekly Trek back. And there are elements that are really good -- even great. So fingers crossed the storytelling improves as we go along.

I didn't have any trouble watching and enjoying Voyager.

Somebody on another thread described DISCOVERY as "DEEP SPACE NINE in the TOS era." There's an element of truth in that. DISCOVERY certainly leans more toward TOS and DS9 than toward TNG or VOY. I'm really enjoying it, but if DS9 was not your cup of tea . . . ..

There are many flavors of TREK. Some have more bite than others.

Exactly. Not exactly sure why the internet seems determined to pit them in opposition to each other, or to use The Orville as a club to beat Discovery. They're both taking different approaches to Trek, but that doesn't mean that the other one is doing it "wrong." Again, different flavors: vanilla is not better than rocky road. It's just different . . . and a matter of taste.

Orville is a nostalgic valentine to the TNG era (with jokes). Discovery is boldly trying to reinvent TREK for the modern era. I'm enjoying both so far, although Discovery is arguably more ambitious.

In my country I've seen 2 episodes of TNG on a weekly basis (TNG Ep 1 & 2) - none of the rest.
I watched ENT at 3am after Celebrity Apprentice when it came out.

So a Star Trek weekly as it comes out (at any time of day I want) is a novelty to me.
I'm grateful.

Weekly trek is a great feeling.
Iv been so used to gobble down entire seasons of random series in a couple of days..... This is like fine dining once a week opposed to smashing down the daily burger.

I love this evolution of Trek series. It doesn't feel like a reboot to me. It feel like it's Trek done in proper 2017. I don't live in America so the first thing I do Monday morning is have coffee and watch DSC. It still hasn't really sunk in that we have Trek again though.

I'm a big Trek litverse reader, it's what I used to feed my Star Trek needs all these years without a series or proper film. I just ordered the novel which is a prequel to DSC series written by none other than David Mack.

Hopefully this is the start of a new beginning of Star Trek series spin-offs, mini-series, etc.

Having a new Star Trek to watch every week is nirvana. The acting, special effects and story telling has been brought bang up to date. It’s a modern, arguably less utopian version, but a version nonetheless, just as DS9 was.

It is basically DS9 but truncated dramatically, like if it started with the Dominion War.

It needed to be said. Voyager was shit, Enterprise was slightly less shit, both were mediocre and predictable and frankly, neither brought anything of value to the table. Mainly because Trek was at a point where it needed new blood at multiple levels to keep it fresh, exciting and relevant. It also needed higher ups who were willing to let the creatives be bolder with the concept. None of that happened and the whole bloated mess just imploded on itself.

Totally entitled to your opinion but I disagree. As would the many others who enjoyed both of those shows (which had great acting and some very memorable plots).

Let's wait and see if ST: Discovery reaches 7 seasons (or even 4) before we go proclaiming it as some bold new vision that is utterly superior to prior shows.

Enjoying the show, I consider it a success since it makes me look forward to actually using Netflix for a change. I am a DS9 fan, its my favorite Trek followed by TOS, ENT, TNG , VOY. I prefer characters that have shades of grey.
