Mod fight!

The stench of passive-aggression.^ I'm getting out the popcorn. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw mods argue! This is classic!![]()
Damn straight. No it's not "classic", it's stupid. Just substitute race for gay and all this whining about people's opinions evaporates. Fuck wrong opinions. Wrong is wrong.
Ooh I just discovered Josh Lanyon the other day and started reading one of his books and now I see mention of him here. I love coincidences like this. The pictures are from a colouring book based on the writings of Josh Lanyon. Josh writes murder mysteries where the protagonists are gay men.
In the book that that picture is based on, the hero used that bear (which is a bookend) to successfully defend himself against a murderer.
There are a host of benefits that come along with official state recognition of your marriage here, as I'm sure there are in Australia.
Well, I would not want to change my name and therefore would not expect my partner to. Also, I don't believe in marriage at all-- if I meet somebody and we want to live together, we'll live together.
Actually in Australia de-facto relationships have the same legal protections as marriage. They have for years.
And all I'm saying is that in the end, the people who believe gay marriage is morally wrong as those who still believe interracial marriage is wrong will remain. You can tell them they're wrong, but they will still believe they are right. We can't do too much about that other than live our own lives. I speak from experience. You live how you live and they deal.No it's not "classic", it's stupid. Just substitute race for gay and all this whining about people's opinions evaporates. Fuck wrong opinions. Wrong is wrong.
There are people who want to murder whole groups of minorities for the same reasons, they believe they are morally justified and right. Religion and delusion can convince a person that anything can be right. But the vast majority of society doesn't agree with them and doesn't allow them to carry it out. If you don't like gay marriage, then don't have a gay marriage. It's as simple as that. Saying that allowing gay marriage to exist harms them in anyway is just as absurd as saying that allowing Jewish people to live freely harms violent anti-Semites. We don't pass laws to benefit their beliefs, we shouldn't pass them to benefit other bigots and scumbags. And all I'm saying is that in the end, the people who believe gay marriage is morally wrong as those who still believe interracial marriage is wrong will remain. Do you somehow think you're passing on a stunning revelation by repeating that some people will remain bigots no matter what you say? What is your motivation for continuing to belabor this point, other then just spreading defeatist nonsense? It's almost as if you're going out of your way to convince people not to try because "It is what it is" or some other BS platitude. Yeah, you can't convince everybody to change, but that doesn't mean you give up trying. And all I'm saying is that in the end, the people who believe gay marriage is morally wrong as those who still believe interracial marriage is wrong will remain. You'll notice that nowhere do I say that you should give up on change. What I do say is that you live how you live and deal with others as you need to. With gay marriage, I recognize others won't agree with it, but that doesn't change my view on the matter. So I say they may believe as they do, and I won't force them to believe as I do. But we all must recognize the law as it is. Churches, mosques and synagogues aren't forced to perform the ceremonies but in the eyes of the law, we can marry our same gender if we so fall in love.Do you somehow think you're passing on a stunning revelation by repeating that some people will remain bigots no matter what you say? I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to say. Are you trying to say that gay marriage shouldn't be legal because there are those who believe it's wrong, and it's wrong to force a law on them that affects them in no way simply because they must "recognize the law as it is"?You'll notice that nowhere do I say that you should give up on change. I know it's not "a stunning revelation," but it's how I deal with people in my life.
Your complete lack of paying attention to what is being said while continuing to repeat the same mantra and a bunch of insufferable Hallmark Card platitudes is incredibly frustrating. One more time for the people in the cheap seats:
The only ones forcing their beliefs on others are the ones who propose and vote for laws that restrict the rights of same sex couples to marry. Gays being married does not affect their own lives in the slightest.
So whining about how you can't force an old dog to learn new tricks is irrelevant, since no one is forcing them or is capable of forcing them to do a damn thing, since the Jedi Mind Trick is not something that actually exists, although weak-minded people being brainwashed by dogma, politicians, and right wing media sure do their best to convince us otherwise. But don't sit here and tell me how they also have to be treated with kid gloves while they're actively trying to disrupt basic human rights and dignity based on their personal bigotry.
There are a host of benefits that come along with official state recognition of your marriage here, as I'm sure there are in Australia. People who deny same sex couples those benefits and rights just because of their own petty hangups or religious beliefs are assholes, and I'm not going to pat them on the head and tell them it's OK to treat other people like second class citizens just so they can feel better about themselves.
