In a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a 'Synth' - a highly-developed robotic servant that's so similar to a real human it's transforming the way we live.

It's a remake of a Swedish series..any Swedes here?

I enjoyed "Almost Human"

Do these synths solve crime

I'm not sure I'll be interested unless they solve crime

Why? Every show is put into context of crime in some ways these days. How boring.

TV is supposed to condition us to be good citizens who are afraid of the consequences from doing bad things.

Or at least it did until the 1970s, when stuff got really blurry.

Hux may have been being sarcastic(?)

But a Robotic Butler, (prediction - whom everyone suspects is going to go haywire and murder everyone) sounds just as overdone as anything else. Where else is the drama going to come from, It helping JR with his homework?

For me personally, EXTANT is doing fine with the robot in the home trope, I don't need another one now.

100 percent Robot crime solver never had a TV series that I am aware of.

I had an idea for a new Trek show called Star Trek: Chalk & Cheese

It's about a wise cracking, hard drinking, chain smoking, maverick Human detective with a bad attitude called Gary Chalk who teams up with a family orientated, by the book, straight laced Vulcan called Vorik Cheese. Together they solve crime

At first, they don't get on very well but the Federation DA needs results otherwise it's his ass on the line, so they learn to put their differences aside to work together

Chalk: It's the goddam tellarite who did it!

Cheese: I fail to see what logical motive the Tellarite ambassador would have for the murder.

Chalk: Forget your logic Cheese! He did it for the cash!

Cheese: I would remind you that the Federation is a moneyless socialist utopia.

Chalk: F**k

Viewer: WTF?

Network Exec: CANCELLED - get me another CSI:NSIC.

Chalk & Cheese: cancelled on Tuesday. The revival cult launches on Thursday.

It looks interesting but i'm not sure if this will have legs

After watching the full trailer on youtube, I think it actually looks pretty good. Almost has the same style and feel as Ex Machina, and the fact it's on AMC instead of Syfy means it will probably explore the concept in a much more interesting and intelligent way.

^Exactly.

Video not available. May be a fault on my end though, not sure.

As an ad for Humans flashed by while FFing through a commercial set during HACF I thought the same thing, that the network it's on may make it worth a look.

Then, the last ad I saw of it, (post 12 above) I thought the robot may be a kind of Spock/Data hybrid so now I am more interested.

Checking the DVR recording schedule I see nothing is upcoming for that time so I guess I will give it a look.

^might be cos it's a British ad

Looks like a British made show but William Hurt is in it too (which seems a likes a pretty big name to me)

The first episode aired on Sunday. I wouldn't say it was the greatest thing ever but it was enjoyable and intriguing enough that I'll keep watching.

It has a very formulaic feel but there was just enough to keep me intrigued (mostly the cast.....mostly Gemma Chan). I can't see it producing any surprises but it looks like solid sci-fi.

The teenage daughter needs to die though.
