Hugo Award Nomination?

I thought Trineer was fine playing angry, but I do think he was better at playing "annoyed", particularly during something comedic.

You know what? Every Star Trek fan has a few personal opinions that widely differ from the fan concencus. Here is mine:

I really fuckin' like "A night in Sickbay":guffaw:

Like, "Carbon Creek" is not a bad episode by any means. But I very much remember like a thousand different weird things that happened in "A night in Sickbay", while I have only the most vaguest of memories of "Carbon Creek". I wouldn't go so far to call "A night in Sickbay" actually "good". But I like it, more than many "good" episodes. Everytime I think about it, I'm like, "Yeah, there was an episode where Porthos peing on a sacred alien tree was the inciting incident of a Star Trek episode, and we saw a nacked Phlox wandering around sickbay feeding his alien animals, and Archer in his underwear trying to catch an escaped alien bat", and it puts a smile on my face. A lot of other, "better", episodes just seem so... bland, compared to it.

So what you're saying is, it's the The Room of Star Trek.

I can get behind that.

No. The Room is poorly made, amateurish schlock.
A night in Sickbay is a very polished, professional episode with a clear and distinctive vision, that made bold choices regarding characterisation, plot points and attempted humor that are devisive for some fans - most don't mind them, others like them, and those who hate, them hate them with a passion.

It's The Last Jedi of Star Trek.

Honestly? These people either haven't watched Westworld or are not, as a group, real sharp shooters. :p

Yes, your hero Luke Skywalker becomes a recluse, drinking green alien milk, and for a brief second contemplates child murder.

I approve it all.

Except Jedi is one of the best Star Wars movies. On par with Empire. Sickbay is yeah... not

"The Last Jedi" is a fuckin' remix of Empire... and parts of Return of the Jedi. It is solely based on scenes we have previously already seen - the throne room betrayal, the battle of Hoth, the "Obi-Wan"-moment, Anakin wiping out the Jedi, "together we can rule the galaxy", Yoda's cave scene - just re-arranged. But every, single, fucking time - it's the EXACT SAME scene that happens. The only thing creative this movie introduces is the Casino planet (THAT'S a fan favourite...), the slow space chase (why can't the Empire's fighters and bombers catch up with the Rebellion's capital ships?) - and the fact everyone is depressed and bitter (Luke plays exactly the role of Obi-Wan combined with Yoda from the old trilogy - only they remained still Valiant, while Luke has just... given up).

You can critize a lot about "A night in Sickbay". But at least it's working entirely on original material. It's not as creatively bancrupt as the new Disney Star Wars movies (ALL of them - Force Awakens and R1 are arguibly even worse)

Really, the one thing were "Last Jedi" and "A Night in Sickbay" are comparable is the fan reaction to it. At least "Sickbay" is mercifully 40 minutes short, compared to the bloated 2.5 hours runtime of "The Last Jedi":guffaw:

Interesting, what's your stance on Rogue one? I freaking loved it, but I am finding a correlation that everyone who likes Jedi, also likes Rogue, and everyone that hates Rogue one, also hates Jedi. Am I right in this correlation?

Interesting. Yeah, I don't hate R1, but I don't like it either. It's a big budget fan film. Not a single event of the first 2/3rds of the movie have any consequences - What did Forest Whitaker added to the story? What was the whole mind-torture scene about? The whole trip to the rainy planet was pointless - beforehand they knew they had to steal the death star plans, afterwards they knew the same, only one more daddy-figure of the main character died on the way. Also, it was horribly repetitive: Every single sequence ended with the place being blown up, either via Deathstar or X-wing bombers (or both). There was no meat to the story. And the entire "heist" was essentially one glorified, by-the-numbers action scene. Why did they CGI replicate Tarkin if he has absolutely no impact on the overall story?

It was very pretty though. The entire movie looked good. I'm a big fan of Admiral Raddus. And it pretty much captured the look and feel of the Star Wars universe (Compare that to Forca Awakens and Last Jedi which look post-apocalyptic, empty and are just plain ugly). In retrospect, I find it kind of amusing what importance they gave the Death Star, even though in retrospect it didn't change anything in the entire galaxy - the Empire is still there, 30 years later, just rebranded, and blowing more planets up at once with a much bigger superweapon than they ever did before. Really, the "Death Star" is only of importane to US, the viewers, because it was in the first Star Wars. In-universe, they devoided it of any meaning or consequences, like both the original AND the prequel trilogy as a whole as well...

Generally speaking, I'm really not a fan of what Disney is doing with Star Wars. They drum it up with unbearing hype. But overall, every single movie so far has essentially been a lesser remake of the original Star Wars movie, with addidtional elements from all other movies recycled and inserted as well.
The new cast is cute, though.

As a fan of THE LAST JEDI, I can say I was not a fan of ROGUE ONE at all.

Aww common, just watch this scene and say you are not a fan:

This is THE Best single scene in all of Star Wars, beats the Trench run, I am your father, etc...

I was mostly bored throughout the whole movie. Dull characters, dull color palate, etc.

And no, I didn't like how Vader was used throughout the movie, and that ending scene with him felt tonally off with the rest of the film.

So, I thought I'd throw this out there:

This is a Star Trek: Discovery thread.

Still haven't seen TLJ, but I did finally catch Rogue One last night when I saw it was on Netflix. I didn't love it, but I thought it was better than The Force Awakens. Both were shallow movies, but Rouge One managed to be not particularly smart yet it still avoided anything mind-numbingly stupid, if that makes any sense.
