How's 2009 So Far?

Hey! I got BLEEDING a few posts earlier but did *I* complain?!?

Not until now, anyway. :D

I have bad nose bleeds, While I was in hospital I went to the toilet and my nose just started flowing, not a good position to be in, hole in my stomach, nose pouring, press the button to call the nurse and no one answered it. So I had to get some tissue rolled up and stuck up my nose to get myself all cleaned up and everything. When I took the tissue out it just poured blood again, this time over the sink. By the time I got a nurse it had stopped, but her initial reaction was "You had a proper nose bleed, eh? Don't worry, I'll clean it up."

Acceptable.

Of course, I start back on Monday and I know it's going to be problematic, but we'll deal. It's better than the alternative:)

My dad's at it again. This morning he was arguing about money. You see, I had bought a new desk chair since mine had broken down completely. I got this great deal the other day from Staples, paying only $40 for a chair listed at $100 (end of year clearance sale). Well, he saw the old chair out by the dumpster and told me if I wanted to waste my money go right ahead.

I didn't say anything to him, but I was indignant. Waste MY money?! I've saved him $300-$400 a month by using my money to buy groceries, pay utility bills, insurance and the occasional medicine. I may be unemployed but I carry my weight around the house, doing most of the chores. Shoot, I even make him breakfast on mornings he has to go in to work. Also, by switching utility companies and communications providers, I saved him $75 a month on that alone.

Some of you guys remember, about two years ago now, I was working at Dell and paying the rent and bills in our house because he was laid off. I didn't complain to him once about it, I just did it because it had to be done. So he's off on the wrong foot this morning and if he's behaving like this after only the 3rd day into the new year, then this year will be one monster headache, just like the last 10.

Well, the hot water tank died and the sump pump is having issues....

So, sucky.

It's still going well. Today I have to do some minor household chores and hit the gym. But they are announcing the new Doctor later today and that could lead to an early snafu. Still, hae to wait and see.

I know! I'm rather enjoying not needing to go back until the 12th. :)

I'm jealous. Every year I promise myself I am going to take the first working week of the new year off so that I can swan into work a week later than everyone else, then I go and blow it all by taking all my annual leave in the summer. Oh, well. I'm in London on the 12th, giving a presentation. I hope our days both go well.

That was precisely the plan. I'm hoping everyone else will have cleared the decks from the holiday backlog by the time I arrive! :D

My appointment schedule for the day is already totally jam-packed... and this was before I went on leave. I've deliberately not accessed my work Outlook calendar since then. I prefer to postpone my horror at my schedule to when I turn up on that morning. Until then I will continue to live in ignorant bliss.

Good luck to you too! :D

For my mom it's going good.

On Dec.31,2008 she was let go from her job.By Jan.2,2009 she had a new job.She will start work tonight. She is a very happy woman.

Well I was asked by a former employer to come in and clean up the mess left behind by the "super-qualified ultra-intelligent can-do-no-wrong because he LOOKS more like a machinist than you" 20 year old snot who replaced me there three years ago.

Spent four there the 2nd. Went home, wrote down every bit of information I can remember on the specific proprietary manufacturing machine in question and hand delivered it to them and told them to snuff it.

They originally fired me under shady circumstances, then asked me to come back and save a contract for them... least they can do is not scream and yell when I tell them the cutter on the machine is not totally destroyed and has to be replaced at $6,000 for each segment. Apparently (according to the foreman who I had the run-in with previously) I destroyed the blade seconds after logging on for the day!

*shakes head* The sad thing is I forsee more of this until manufacturing picks up again.

So yeah, employmentwise my prospects are going to be limited this year. Relationship and hobby-wise things are going quite well. SWMBO is working on writing a novel (seriously!) when not at work and I'm making money with my lathe so can't complain in that direction.

Unrelated, but it's worth noting that on the news today they were mentioning that because of the current economical situation, a huge number of applicants were trying to get jobs at the legal brothels in Nevada! One report I saw said a lot of them were coming from New York! Weird!

Where were you and your lathe when Jason Nesmith was fighting a rock monster while trying to steal a beryllium sphere, huh?

The cold I had has turned into a mega-cough, and I have pulled a muscle from coughing so hard. :borg:

Well, still going along nicely. A great January 1st, and I found work on the 2nd and 3rd (been unemployed from full-time "real" work for almost 18 months).

And tonight I'm finishing another song in my newest stage score.

So I like this year a lot so far ...

It's not that kind of work!:lol: She is working at gas station.

2009 has been utterly shit to date.
My best friend was in a 70mph hit-and-run RTC on the M25 yesterday evening, no injuries thank God but the jackass who hit him got away so his written off car and £3000 damage to the crash barrier is on his insurance.
And my girlfriend's mother finally succumbed to a long illness at 3:30 this morning.

All in all, I'm not loving this year so far.

:(

Sorry to hear how some of yoiu are off to a tough start.

I'm good so far.I just got a new temp drivers license, and a blackberry device. I still have a week before I leave for DC but the school is already driving me nuts.

cultcross, that does indeed suck. My sympathies to your friend and condolences to your girlfriend. :(
