Actually considering how over powered he usually ends up getting he probably could be everywhere at once and prevent all that stuff seeing as he can travel at the speed of light and in some cases travel back in time.

I'd take away the option for combat, i.e. wars, civil wars, local fighting and especially genocide. As soon as a group of people picks up guns (or something heavier) to move against others they must realize that moments later Superman will be there to destroy their guns and send them home.
If people can't resort to widespread violence to force their opinion/lifestyle on others then the only way to deal with problems is by talking and compromising.

First I would try negociations. If that doesn't work, I would use my Superpowers to try and stop the people from doing wrong.

He might easily take down common criminals and the occasional supervillain, but if he (you?) got too big for his briches in the eyes of world governments, he'd could be made to go bye bye.

^It's not like it would be an ego trip. My morals are pretty fair when it comes to "righting" what's "wrong". I'll rid earth of nukes, replace every energy source planet wide with fusion or hydrogen powered engines (with Superman's brain, I could read up on what I don't know and come up with something), then cultivate deserts (among other worldwide agricultural implications), and build tons of free shelters across the world. Then my focus would be on the bullshit. After everyone's needs are met comes the tough part of ending poverty where, of course, the top CEOs and big wigs who doesn't want everyone to be equal would label me a threat. My morals would come to play when forcing the people ruining this world to give back to it. I won't kill them or anything, probably give them a upper citizens card that gives them access to top of the line items I'll create and give them free to sell, but I'll take a lot of their money and throw it in a world budget stimulus fund, accessible by every country (allocated).
In the end, after I feel no one needs to take from anyone I'll probably leave earth for anyone who was against my actions. Fix Mars up or something, maybe one of Jupiter's moons, and invite people to leave and join me if they wish.
I'll only drop the "Screw you, I'm Superman" on the hard heads.

Well, I guess I would be a dog of the military--look for IEDs and enemy weapons--but not turn on the US Military. I'd do some space exploration and a cheap SSTO--lift bases shrunken into a small jar on the moon and find a way. to expand them.
If I was the unlimited "could blow out a star' Superman, I'd make Mercury a moon of Venus, find a way to dump its CO2 atmosphere on Mars. and put Enceledus water on them both...

I'd then buy Warner Brothers, and make sure two certain people never get to touch the last son of krypton or dark knight ever again. I might also throw JJ Abrams into the phantom zone, assuming it exists/I can use "super intelligence" to invent it (superman did have super intelligence in the silver age). Although, thinking about the silver age, it actually might be easier to use super hypnotism to make Abrams think he's a chicken. Then again, he has all the directorial abilities of a chicken already, so the phantom zone is probably the only way to be sure (he wouldn't be lonely, he'd get a three person crystal thing like zod and friends did, with Michael Bay and Christopher Nolan as prison mates).
