How would you have done SG: Atlantis differently?

I notice people keep saying "leave Atlantis out of contact with Earth."

I have to disagree with this, as I actually agree with the choice to re-establish contact with Earth. Primarily for the reasons TPTB gave: they didn't want to show to become like Voyager where it was all about them getting home and the show would end when they made it back.

And really, it's for the best they got regular contact with Earth. Otherwise we'd be asking questions like where are they getting their food, ammo, medicine, and other supplies, just like we currently are with SGU.

Actually, it's kind of ironic that despite TPTB's desire not to copy Voyager with Atlantis, that's exactly what they've done with SGU. Hell, you could even look at the military vs civilian thing as being similar to Starfleet vs the Maquis.

I agree with your disagreement. I think it was a smart move to reconnect them with Earth. Then again, I never found the connection with Earth to be a problem with the show.

Apparently, TPTB always intended for them to reconnect with Earth by the end of year one from the beginning.

Different goals for different shows apparently.
