How will Trek XI blend in with the rest of Trek

I don't think the new movie is horrible; I just think it's retarded. It's the Star Trek equivalent of The Mummy Returns.

I loved the movie and I can accept that many other people don't feel the same way as me but at the end of the day it has been done.

but don't you think it was time for a Trek origin story
A TOS origin story would have been nice. Too bad we didn't get one.

Got quite a good one, in fact, unblemished by all the fanwank that so many trekkies insist should be part of such things.

Okay, the Kobyashi Maru was a little fanwanky, but served a dramatic point and was certainly a lot more entertaining than trivial crap like "meeting Finnegan and Gary Mitchell."

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel. It's just another alternate timeline that I'm invested in about as much as I'm invested in all the other alternate timelines that we saw in Parallels or something, ie. not at all.

Incorrect. You're actually investing a lot of time into posting and trying desperately to slam it, and because it hasn't quite worked out for you then you keep trying harder. So the notion that you haven't "invested in it at all" is actually quite incorrect.
Let's not be pedantic in our terminology.
Yeah

We got a Kirk and Spock origin story, but it wasn't a TOS origin story.

If one wants to be precise, there never can be and never will be a TOS origin story. There hasn't been a TOS episode produced since 1969, and the TOS-based films aren't even really that close a match. They simply feature the cast from TOS.

A good Kirk/Spock/The Gang origin story is as close as we'll ever get to a good TOS origin story, and for my (repeated) money this one was fine.

Hell, even if you accounted for the movies, there could never be a TOS origin story, as they are either too old or dead to pass for their younger selves (although, I suspect Shatner would fully believe he could do it).

Yep.

I think I may just settle on only the original TV series and this movie as canonical. The rest of it is some other "alternate universe."

what did you think of the younger actors like Anton Yelchin playing Chekov also how will they develop and grow the characters

Of course, I mean why wouldn't he? Its perfectly logical to assume that he would grow and mature with the character.:vulcan:
