How will Scotty be introduced?

Kokomo

Commander
Red Shirt
Let's start brainstorming some ideas of how everyone's favorite starship engineer will be introduced in the new movie. Personally, I would love to see something like this: (Now mind you I have no clue the plot of the movie), but it would be kind of cool if say, Pike knew of Scotty and his exceptional skills and decided that he would be the best and only choice for some mission that he is about to embark on with his new (the classic) crew. Him and Kirk go to a local bar that is located near Starfleet headquarters and see that the bar is far from glamorous. They walk in and ask the bartender if he has seen Montgomery Scott and the bartender replies, "...Oh, Scotty? Yeah, he's over there." Pike and Kirk turn to see Scotty taking on three guys in a good ol' fashioned bar fight (that is quite humorous). From there the three men talk and the rest is history.

Okay, I know that was kinda stupid, but you get the general idea. How would you guys like to see Scotty introduced in the movie?

Kirk walks into Engineering.

Kirk: "Hello, I'm Captain James T Kirk."
Scotty: "Chief Engineering Officer Montgomery Scott, at your service sir."
Kirk: "If I say I need warp drive in two seconds or we're all dead can you get it done?"
Scotty: "You'll have it in one, sir."
Kirk: "Good. Carry on."

Kirk walks out of Engineering.

If they'd be willing to crib from a good ST novel, they could take a bit from Duane's WOUNDED SKY, where you see Scotty on Mars dropping a 10 kilometer pressure dome into place over a construction project. They postulated it as a project he had on the boards before he was assigned to enterprise, and it does give a sense of 'scope.'

Kirk: So you're the Enterprise's engineer. Are you any good?
Scott: I can count on one hand the times I've been stumped.
Kirk: So, then, five?
Scott: Four.

We shouldn't encounter Scotty until he's needed. Kirk should call down to engineering with some unreasonable demand for power at an inopportune moment, and we should hear Scotty over the 'com saying "I canna do it Captain!"

We cut to engineering where all is chaos and, after the "meet engineering" fly-thru, encounter Scotty in a jeffries tube where, shouting orders to his staff and getting his own hands dirty, he damned well DOES "do it." Then, with an order to "keep her together, lads" he heads to the bridge to oversee the prformance of his precious bairns which are now subject to the whims of the young maniac in the captain's chair.

Klingon bridge: A loud crash as an axe comes through the turbolift door. Pegg sticks his head through the door and growls, "Here's Scotty!"
After killing all Klingons on the bridge, he ransacks their bar looking for REDRUM...

I like that idea, a lot. I read Wounded Sky when it came out, but I don't remember that part. That would really be a nice touch.

I reread WOUNDED SKY every couple of years; except for FINAL REFLECTION and the first three-quarters of PRIME DIRECTIVE, I think that is the only Trek book I reread regularly.

Tons of good stuff there, just wish they hadn't thrown so much of it out when it got kinda/sorta mucked-over/adapted into WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE on TNG.

I remember reading somewhere that when we first encounter Scotty in this film, he will not be Starfleet, but rather working as an engineer for "the private sector".

I can't seem to find the article now, but then again that could have been a bunch of AICN rumor B.S..

It would be interesting to have Scotty come to Starfleet through non-tradtional means (i.e. NOT by going to the Academy).

He'll be wearing a Starfleet uniform at some point in the movie, right? Oh, God I hope so :techman:

Kirk meets Scotty in a pub. Scotty is shitfaced drunk and can barely walk. He falls down and smacks his head on a pool table.
