Reruns of TOS in the mid-80s when I was 12-13 made me a fan of space-based sci-fi in general (and Spock in particular). I saw much of TNG, DS9 and VOY when they were broadcast but it was ENT that made me a fan. I've bought DVDs of all the shows since.

I hadn't seen any Star Trek until a friend of mine suggested that we'd watch The Next Generation together, about 10 or 11 years ago. We saw four seasons together, then we stopped for some reason. Then I started to watch Voyager, I saw three seasons ot that, then back to TNG a few years later to see the rest of it, then the rest of Voyager, the complete original series, the complete Deep Space Nine series (last year) and now I'm watching Enterprise, with one season left. My favorite is DS9. :-)

Will the Trekkie become extinct? That question can only be answered if we know how new Trekkies are created. Vote and let's find out! What made you become a fan? Was it the movies, the series, a book?

Ive been a fan since I was 5 and watched reruns of TOS. TOS was my first exposure to Trek. While TNG was made for my generation I saw TOS first and TNG as a teenager. I still consider myself a trekker even though some fans now saw the label is n longer in vogue because of NuTrek and a more general fanbase of those movies but I disagree. I was, am and always will consider myself a trekker until I am on my deathbed watching a original series episode one more time.;)

The term Trekker is used by Trekkies who don't like being called Trekkies.

Eh I am flexible. Call me a trekker or trekkie and I am fine with it.

I don't know when "Trekker" came into existence, but I was called a Trekkie by someone during the mid-70s, and I think Trekker was already showing up in fanzines by then.

I started with TOS as a teenager in 1966. I was definitely a Trekkie, because I bought an AMT Enterprise and a first edition The Making of Star Trek in the 60s.

Yeah I have my own TOS uniform(Gold) and bought tons of star trek books as a kid. Not sure what that makes me. My teenage and 20s encompassed TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT series but I still identify most strongly with TOS. Though I love all the other series also.

I've never bought a uniform, not into those really, but I did get a TOS pistol phaser last Christmas thanks to someone here. It's the only artifact currently, other than books and videos. Used to have a lot more crap, but most was lost due to moving a lot.

I became a fan in Sep. 2013, the Into Darkness movie was coming out on DVD and they had the first at Redbox so I thought that I would finally try it out and really liked them both (the second more than the first). After that I wanted to experience the original so I went to walmart and bought the first two seasons on DVD along with the first six movies over the course of a month or so and fell in love with it, I've been a huge fan ever sense and have also collected my own fair share of novels. (I'm 24 BTW)
