How was 7 of 9 introduced in 'Picard'?

JesterFace

Fleet Captain
Commodore
Lets assume someone who loves TNG wants to watch this new Picard series but hasn't watched 'Voyager'. (I have)
How was Annika introduced in 'Picard'? Many connections to 'Voyager'? Jean-Luc and Annika had both been part of the Borg collective earlier, was it discussed much? Were other Voyager crew members mentioned?

How was Annika introduced in 'Picard'?
in the most badass way possible
Many connections to 'Voyager'?
not many, no, almost none
Jean-Luc and Annika had both been part of the Borg collective earlier, was it discussed much?
yes, that's basically why she was in the show
Were other Voyager crew members mentioned?
Icheb had a cameo, if that counts. Nobody remembers Icheb for good reasons, but he served the plot here

If this person loves TNG and still hasn't seen Picard one year on, I have to question whether they really love TNG. To them I say: just watch the show, enjoy Sir P's performance and seeing old "friends".

TNG is my favourite series of all time but I haven't watched 'Picard', at least not yet. There are many things (mentioned in other threads) that make me avoid the series. Lets see what the future episodes bring in and if I get interested. Q being on the show will be interesting.

I wouldn't if you like TNG.

Or don't watch the show. That's OK too and says nothing about fan status or care about TNG.

TNG, in my mind, ended with All Good Things.

Picard, Data, and Riker essentially ARE the elements that made TNG. If one liked TNG, they surely liked (some of) those characters, and would be curious about Picard S1. Clearly the OP (or the "friend" he/she is asking for...) is curious. So watch it.

Don't like what the new producers did with the characters? See ST:TNG, all 7 seasons. We got a weekly dose of sometimes great episodes that used them to the max, sometimes bad episodes that really dropped the ball on the characters. This even goes back to ST:V, or heck, Spock's Brain!

If you like Trek, watch it. If you don't like Trek, don't watch it and also don't hang out on a BBS devoted to a show, only to trash it every chance you get.

That is dangerously close to gatekeeping.

There is no mandatory watch requirement for liking Trek. I like Picard but I would not demand people watch it. That's crazy to me.:shrug:

If I like TNG, which I do, I shouldn't watch 'Picard'? Thanks for the tip.

Quit tap dancing around "reasons" and just watch the show, then answer your own questions. Sheesh!
I don't like dancing.
I don't remember all the reasons I have stayed away from 'Picard' but here are few. May sound foolish but that's apparently my style.
As I love TNG I'm afraid on 'Picard'. How am I going to react to certain events or characters when I know what will eventually happen to them in 'Picard'? For example Maddox, they killed him off, right? After watching an episode like that how might that "damage" an amazing episode like 'The Measure of a Man'? I don't know but I won't risk it.
Data.... For me TNG ended with 'All Good Things...' and there's no need for me to start going through Data's afterlife in 'Picard'.

Like I said above, same here. "Five card stud, nothing wild and sky's the limit".

I don't trash the series every chance I get. At some point when it was fresh I said what I don't like about it. I don't remember that I've been trashing she show recently? Or have I?

Here's the thing; there's not one person who can make up your mind for you. I do not hold to the theory that a new show can ruin my feelings on an old show. Picard stepped out in a way that made me connect with Picard as a character that TNG never did. The reasons I like Picard are not informed by TNG; two separate animals. I don't think one has the impact on the other.

Ultimately your choice.
After watching an episode like that how might that "damage" an amazing episode

How?

'Kay. But you keep starting threads in this forum asking about the show. At this point, I have to think it'd be much easier to simply watch the show and find out the things you're wondering than to keep starting thread after thread asking about the show.

For example when watching 'The Measure of a Man' I don't want to start thinking how Maddox is going to die in the not so distant future. I would rather let the episode be as it is, there's no need for "part two".

There hasn't been that many threads by me? Or has there been? But why not ask questions about the show, people can be curious. These threads only confirm my theory, stay away from 'Picard'.

I just don't see how. If I am thinking about another show while watching an episode then that is a failure on the part of the episode, not the follow up story.

Here's my thing-this is self-serving bias confirmation. There is no experience to watching Picard that you have to confirm it-only thoughts. We as humans are far better at imagining things as being far worse than they actually are. I don't think these threads are going to confirm or deny anything but preconceived notions.

But why not ask questions about the show, people can be curious.
But in every thread you regurgitate the whole routine about "TNG is the bestest of the bestest and I can't watch Picard and risk it ruining that." If that's really how you feel, then stop bothering with the show altogether. But if you feel the need to keep asking questions about the show and what goes on in it, just watch the show so you can find out this stuff first hand.

Cool. I'll remember that in your next thread.

Someday I will understand the perspective of a newer show ruining my past experience. That I could watch something now that would undo my memories or a rewatch of something I have enjoyed. Thus far I have not experienced such a thing with the various franchises that have been supposedly "ruined" by additional installments.

I like TNG and I enjoyed Picard too, for what it's worth. Nothing that happens in Picard affects my enjoyment of TNG in the slightest. Everything that I like about TNG still exists and can be enjoyed over and over. Picard tells a new story, set many years later, and I enjoy that too.

On re-watch I found that the show plays better when watched as a marathon than it did with a week between episodes. And hindsight adds quite a lot to the viewing experience.

No need to be an ass about this. Yaay, lets all make fun of that guy, look at him, he's pathetic.
I know I suck, no confirmation required.
