I missed the talk of trailers on the last page... It's interesting that in olden times they were played after the main feature, hence the name "trailer" since they trailed behind the movie. But this was deemed to be ineffective advertising because too many people would leave right at the end of the movie and ignore the trailers, and so they were moved to the beginning instead.

Having stuff play before the movie is actually a decades-long tradition now. Going to the movies was getting a whole package of entertainment, so you would see newsreels, a cartoon or two, previews for upcoming features, and an episode of an adventure serial, and then finally the main feature. But as mentioned, nowadays this has turned into trailers and some inane ads for theater concessions and rewards programs, and warnings about piracy and texting during the movie. Though at least one theater chain in recent years (I forget which one) started playing some kind of infotainment featurette, but the whole thing plays before the show start time on the ticket. So if you get there at the start time, you miss out on that completely, and just get the twenty minutes of ads.

I'm going to the movies next Thursday. Got advance tickets for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 3. Prices don't really determine whether I go see a movie or not, since I usually go to the matinees (which are cheaper). I'm also a member of Scene+ (had to apply for a new card when I could no longer log into my account since when I originally joined, you didn't need to include your phone number), so if I earn enough points, I get free admission (or a discount on the concession stand, which is the most expensive part of seeing a movie in theaters anyway).

Last year, I went to two movies in theaters; Uncharted (which I saw 11 times) and Jurassic World: Dominion (which I only saw 5 times, not because I didn't like it. Mostly because of the times, I was either busy or the showing was either too early or too late). A movie has to pass through both our theaters before it officially ends it theatrical run, which means it might still be playing when the Blu-ray and DVD is released, which is what happened last year with Uncharted (I still went to see it in the theater it was still playing in, even though I already owned it).:)

I felt burned on Quantumania so I am going to wait and see how it rates for a few or more weeks before deciding to go or wait until D+.

As for the topic, besides the big screen and sound, real movie theater popcorn keeps me interested in theaters, the microwave bags are not the same.
