How to gracefully transition my collection to Blu-Ray?

I'm still holding out for a cheaper release of 2001 on 4K BD but it's still inordinately expensive in the UK.

I'm still waiting for the price to come down a bit here in the US, considering I already own the film on Blu-ray.

I've caved in and bought the 3-disc edition for £30 from amazon.uk. I'll report back on whether it was worth it when I've received and watched it. There are very few movies that I think are worth such an outlay -- Lawrence of Arabia is another example that I'm dithering over.

About the only thing I've religiously upgraded from format to format over the years is Star Trek. Though I still need to pick up Star Trek (2009) and Into Darkness on UHD.

I have the Xbox One S in my living room, hooked up to my 65" 4K HDR TV and haven't noticed any real shortcomings in its performance. Though the interface could use some work. I have a cheap LG player in the bedroom.
HIGHLY recommended on Star Trek and Into Darkness. Looks absolutely stunning.

Maybe it was the player in my One S, but there was a lot of freezing and skipping around while watching movies. Also the picture didn't look very sharp. After I bought my LG player, I haven't had any problems.

Well, I watched 2001 in UHD and I can't say it was any better than HD apart from someone appears to have cleaned up some of the flaws that I remember seeing in the cinema. Purists might object but I found the flaws distracting. Their absence is also somewhat distracting if you're looking for them. Was it worth £30? Not really -- I still can't quite read the instructions for the zero-gravity toilet -- although the booklet showing photos taken on set and conceptual art for the production, which I hadn't seen previously, is interesting.
