How to fix the holographic displays in Picard

I thought the holocontrols were kinda goofy/cliche, but I was watching TNG the other night and the extra manning the security station was so tall his fingertips couldn’t reach the fixed-height control panel. I think I’d rather have holocontrols than the nightmare of bad ergonomics that is the Enterprise D bridge.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we've only seen the holographic controls on La Sirena, correct? It is a civilian ship? Possibly bought off the Starship lot. You know how new cars of these days are loaded with options, imagine the options that would be available to a civilian ship in the 25th Century. Maybe he had the choice of physical controls or holographic controls.

Unfortunately we’ve seen them 10 years before kirks time on the discovery.

It was the same displays for their personal computers on earth

We don’t use flat paneled interfacing on our large transports such as air craft carriers , Air planes and trains.

I’m still waiting for you to answer the question I posed to you about how that makes things better.

EC Henry has a great video on what is wrong with the holographic displays in Picard and how to fix them.

He makes a good point that we've seen back in TNG and Voyager that holograms can be solid. So why not use holograms that look like solid consoles?

I love his idea of essentially making the bridge a holodeck and being able to materialize chairs and solid consoles in any configuration you want or need. For example, he mentions that instead of Picard complaining about the unfamiliar holographic displays, he should have been able to materialize TNG style consoles that he would have been more familiar with. It makes sense and it would have been really nostalgic to see.
that's brilliant!

it’s tactile and people aren’t waving their hands about like idiots. Also having to hold your arms up in the air all day long pressing on air buttons has to wear out the arms over time. It’s not practical.

Yeah, I don't go to Trek for practical. Otherwise there would be pockets.

Uh yeah ok. Imagine holding you fingers and hands in the air touching holo buttons and controls during a long battle or space maneuvers. A console with a surface is much more practical. It allows you to rest your arms on a surface rather then hold them up. Also the buttons are arranged in easy to access points where you would have to exert so much to get a task you want. Watching Picard in that space battle using those holo controls tired me out. It looked totally stupid.

I don't need to imagine. I've done something similar. It doesn't bother me.
