Some times, yes. I use stand up boards, smart boards, and other tech. I raise my hands to use the Wii game console and other such devices.

My point is there are lots of different ways of using technology and insisting that this needs "fixing" isn't accurate.

If people prefer a different application of Trek technology then by all means showcase it. The OP is fine with sharing EC Henry's video. I just don't happen to agree with his points.

Why is it so difficult to get past the creative choice and move on?

Who were the contractors on the "holo consoles" VFX work again?

EC Henry is not exactly a Doomcock or Midnight's Edge. More of a fan with a talent for 3D and some thoughtful ideas about filmmaking.

Yeah. EC Henry is definitely not like guys like Doomcock. He does not just rant about how he hates everything. He creates 3D ships from Star Wars or Star Trek. He is definitely a fan. He has this video about warp nacelles that is pretty cool.

and this video where he compares the speeds of different warp systems that is also pretty cool.

On that note, I'll answer your previous question.

We understand. We just don't give a shit.

    Silly is kind of subjective.

Regardless, even if it is silly it is an idea I expected in Star Trek. And, from what we've seen of Rios it seems to fit his character.

I'll weigh in when I start using holo-controls myself. Given Star Trek's track record with introducing computer technology we'll eventually use...

... give it 20 years. I'll link back to this post, when the time is right, so it's not a necro-thread I'm bumping.

He also did a video praising Discovery Season 1 for making a warp sequence length accurate to how fast they were going (if Warp 1 = the speed of light that is).

I think I've established myself as a pretty ardent defender of Star Trek: Picard...

... but yeah, I really hate the holo-controls. Oh well - no one bats a thousand!

    I hate LCARS.

    They can't all be winners.

Never mind all the assumptions that are Rios' controls are standard to all vessels, when he is obviously doing his own thing.

Rios might have his own setup but it seems the floaty controls are widespread as Raffi/Soji/Picard have them on their personal computers

For me the 80's style of TNG look far more futuristic, the uniforms, terminals, control pads, everything. Even the few times the uniform showed up reminded me how far into the future this is meant to be. There's just somethin about TNG.

I wish I saw TNG as futuristic. To me its dull, bland and uninspired. It feels like a clunky UI with limited functionality. But, usually that functionality is revolving around the speed of plot so there is that.

Picard holocontrols are worse than LCARS. YMMV.

Judging by this thread my mileage varies as much as a F350 with a leaking gas tank vs. a Prius.

The principle of LCARS was ok. The problem is that often, the designers did not bother to create logical LCARS with actual information. Instead, the LCARS seem to just have random stuff in them that did not make sense. There are many scenes in TNG and VOY where you can clearly see the actors are just staring at a screen of random nonsense. They did not even try to hide it. If the designers had taken the time to design logical LCARS, then I think it could have worked great.

Yeah, I appreciate the concept but LCARS always struck me as inefficient. There are times where it made sense, but that was rare. I appreciate the idea of touch screens, and that obviously takes it a step closer towards modern day. But it doesn't scream "The Future" the way it does to others.
